I am installing windows xp on my daughters computer.I can't figure out how to get the computer to get the windows xp cd to run.I have reformatted hard drives before and didn't have a problem booting through the windows 98 boot disk and loading windows 98.With windows xp it says the disk can't be run in dos. so how do I get it to run? I usually set my bios to boot from the cd drive to avoid that that problem. I recently installed XP for a friend and had no problem with that even though I didn't change the bios. If you go to http://www.michaelstevenstech.com/bios_manufacturer.htm it will tell you how to access your bios and you can change the boot sequence to include the cd rom. I hope this helps.

You can change Bios setting, you make it boot from cd then when your computer is booting than Windows xp cd is found in your system.

you have to set the computer to boot for the cd. you go into bios (you have to press a button (usually DEL) before windows even starts) then you look for the window to set the computer to boot first from the cd and then from the hard drive. remember to save the settings in bios. you shouldn't have any problems afterwards :) hope i could help you

Remove the win98 boot disk, just leave your winxp disc in your CD ROM drive and when it boot observe carefully the prompt "press any key to boot from CD drive ...", you have to press it before its gone or you have to reboot again and wait for it. Setup will continue at that point.

First of all please check that the XP cd that you have is bootable or not because that is very important. Then power on your pc. press the key that leads to BIOS, usually DEL or F2 or F12 do that. If there is another key it will be shown on the screen. When you see the BIOS go to boot order. Make sure that your CD-ROM is above your HDD in the boot order. if it is not above your HDD then change your boot order and press F10 on your keyboard. It will ask you to save and exit. Press enter. Then insert your Xp cd in the CD-ROM and restart your pc. Your XP will automatically start it's setup(if it is bootable). That's all. I hope it works for you. Please do tell me if you still have a problem.
