A gated community wouldn't work....

So I am sitting here thinking about what our HOA could do to make our subdivision safer (see other discussion How would you feel?). We are a secluded neighborhood off the main road with only one entry/exit way. So the first thing that popped into my head....make it a gated community...but alas this won't work cause the crimes are being committed by those who either live here or are friends to those who live here. So I am at a loss other than the HOA hiring extra patrol (rent a cop) for the neighborhood, kicking out all renters, I have no solutions.

It's a sad state of affairs, tat those we are closest to, be they family or neighbours, are some of the people committing the crimes. That's really scary whe we stop and think about it.

The problem that we are facing in my subdivision is that a lot of the original owners (the subdivision is only 10 years old) have either moved and sold thier house, moved and are renting their house out, or have moved and sold it to someone who is renting it out. A lot of the houses are becoming rent houses and the renters are scary. It is like the landlords don't even run a check on them at all.

Oh and none of HOA members live here any longer, heck most of them don't live in this town anymore.

I am afraid there is no great solutions. There are always going to be criminals somewhere close. I am sure it would be a little safer, but I think that all we can do is lock up everything the best we can and be observant of things going on around us.

Hi. I read both discussions and I don't know if my advice is an option for you.
My daughter faced the exact situation you are trapped in. Within one year, her neighborhood turned from owner/family to renters. The people who rented brought crime with them.
She was fortunate enough to move to a newer and nicer subdivision. I don't know if you can do that.
A few years ago, I remember hearing that rather than criminals being behind bars to keep them from harming others, people would be forced to live behind walls to keep criminals out_ As in a gated community.
The problem with gated communities is that they provide a false sense of security. Yes, the entrance is guarded, but most sub-divisions have low areas of fencing or landscaping where someone can gain access.
Our society is corrupted and people with integrity are victims.
