MOULD... How do they grow?

I was clearing my fridge the other day when I realised that I left a bowl of lemon juice in the fridge before I left for my honeymoon. Clean forgot about it. In the bowl, there was this thick layer of green furry mould floating on the juice. It makes no wonder. The fridge was closed for a good three weeks. And the juice is wrapped in a airtight container with cling wrap! Yet the mould is able to go into the juice and grow in the cold confines of the refridgerator! AMAZING!! And all these while, I thought mould only thrive on warm damp areas! Some of the fruits that were left in the fridge were also spoilt due to the mould. Do you face the same problem? How do you get rid of mould in your fridge besides throwing away the moulded items?

oh that is so gross. i don't have that problem. i mean of course if you leave something in there long enough it will get some kind of mold on it. but i live in a house of six people. including two growing boys. which really means, nothing stays in long enough

Ha ha ha ha ha... I know what you mean. When I was living with my mum, the food never stays long in the fridge to ever get a chance to expire. Now that I am living only with my wife, that happens more often. Many a times we would buy the food. And due to a busy work schedule, we clean forgot about it. By the time we remembered, it would have either expired, or spoiled. Sigh... I really hate to waste food.

yep. That happens in mum's house when I was still living with her too. But it rarely happens as I am always rummaging the fridge for something to cook to eat. And mum cannot refill the fridge fast enough!

I think mold can grow anywhere over time . Look at bread.Sometimes, I will go to have some and have found mould and this was just with in a week . My parents were famous for leaving things , or leaving leftovers in the fridge and forgetting about it . That is one thing my mom never liked doing is cleaning out the fridge You should of seen all the things my dad would pull out . All sorts of veggies that had fuzz , and this was thick and furry . We even for a cup of yogurt that actually turned to water. It is funny how things age over time . I know when my dad would clean iu up he would soak everything in a dish soap that had bleach . Then he would ripe down the fridge . My family would , mostly dad go through the fridge every other month and you could only think what they found without going eww eww !! My brother and me always would throw things away , but it would just build and build . I am telling you my mom kept everything . You should see now that I have a place of my own my fridge is spotless and I throw things out with in a few days if I dont eat it.

"thick and furry" fuzz That happens to me once in a while. I buys something that I thought I would eat. Then I forget about it altogether as the days go by. By the time I clean out my fridge, this thing has mutated into something unrecognizable. We would then gripe and cuss while we disinfect the fridge before we fill it up with fresh food.
