Yesterday my little Cavalier had an engine blow out. I was taking my son to work and when i stopped at the stoplight, smoke was going everywhere ! I called my bf (of 7 years) from at work and had him come and get us. That means that we were down to 1 vehicle for a 3 driver family. (my sons car is also broken) My bf decided that I needed to get a new car and comdemned my Cav, which got 30 mpgs. He talked me into an "05 Monte Carlo. Its great, but only gets 20 mpgs. He is the one that is going to be amking the payments, but I am the one that is going to be putting the gas in it. Am I crazy for letting him talk me into this seeing as how the gas prices are steady soaring? We had to move quick since we all missed work yesterday and couldnt afford any more days off. What do you think? Tell me Ive lost my mind, or that I should just shut up and be happy that hes making the payments !! :-)

Was your cavalier, not able to be fixed. Personally, I would have looked into how much it would cost to get fixed. With great gas mileage as it had, I would have thought twice before letting it go.
The cost of repairs, would have been less than car payments.
It seems you are having second thoughts, but since someone else is making the payments, you are off the hook for that one.
Good luck with your new car.

Its fixable, and believe me, I am thinking twice and thrice...lol but...... it has 175,000 miles on it and it seems that we have sunk soooo much money into it lately fixing stuff that is breaking. According our friend that is a certified mechanic and also owned the same type car, we made the right choice by letting the car go. He said that it will probably cost atleast $700-$800 to fix it. Im hoping that I can find someone around here that NEEDS a little beater car that knows how to work on them that would want it rather than taking it to the junk yard. Oh well i guess i should be happy that Im not stuck without a car period. :-) Thanks for letting me know that Im not the only one that would be second guessing myself in this situation :-)
