When they just don't get it...

We've all run into people on mylot who didn't really understand something about how the site worked. Probably many of us have given advice or answered their questions. But sometimes they fail to grasp even the most simple explanation.
With some, especially users you don't really know, it's easy to just give up on trying to get them to understand. If the user is claiming mylot or another user did something horrible, but it was really just the workings of mylot, it doesn't seem rude to tell them that they are wrong and need to go back and read the faqs better...
But what happens when it's a friend? A friend is badly mistaken and you've tried to explain but they just won't listen/can't understand. And I don't mean on opinion type stuff, but on actual facts where you know 100% that you are right. They think they've been wronged on mylot, the want to place blame and take action, they are mad about it, and nothing you've said has gotten them to understand that nobody did anything wrong and the actions they wish to take will hurt themselvs and an innocent mylotter.
What do you do? Keep trying to be polite? Explain till you're blue in the face even though it does no good? Re-evaluate what kind of 'friend' this person is and get rude with the explanation? Or walk away and hope the innocent member (also a friend perhaps) doesn't get hurt too badly?

Sometimes being polite just doesn't do it, you may have to just be frank and open then hope that they relize what you were trying to tell them to start with. If they then continue on to do something stupid there will be nothing for you to say.

Maybe I should just give it one more go only not be so polite about it...not necessarily rude but just very, very open.

I dont like to argue so I will just walk away. I have done it many times if they dont get it that sucks but you know if I see many people try and explain it and still they dont get then nothing I say will change it.

I agree with you both. i don't want to argue with her, i just feel bad that another friend may be hurt in the process. I may try one more time but then I'll just let it be...you can't save everybody!

I say leave it alone. I only explain things to people once. Twice if they come back to me and say they don't get it. I do have a large vocabulary, but with the friends I have, both online and in real life, I've found that it doesn't do well to always use it. I explain things in simple to understand terms. If they don't understand it the first time, and they don't ask me to explain it further, I leave the entire situation alone. No sense of me getting frustrated because of something someone else is doing.
