Maybe it's a language or culture thing, but here in America there are often sales in pet stores on pairs of lovebirds. They're a particular sort of small parrot. Another one is a major problem in the swampy subtropical areas. They're called LOVEBUGS, and they fly stuck together. The gather on cars' windshields and in the radiators, and they're very difficult to wash off. Something in their bodies makes them peel off the paint if the car isn't cleaned quickly enough. Everybody who has to drive long distances, especially in the summer, hates those little lovebugs!

Because they are birds or specifically parrots as far as I know and not flies or crocodiles to merit any other name. Love birds are very sweet and loving animals. They are very steadfast and remain loving & loyal to their mate for many many years, that is why they are called love birds. Lots of love to you too.

Actually some sorts of birds are actually seen in couples and they do seem at times to be locking their beaks together like you'd do if you smooch. Such sensuous love signs aren't exhibited by any other type of animals. Well, if crocodiles locked their lips together, I don't think there would be much left of their "lips" altogether, lol And I don't think that any people will be interested enough to walk about with their magnifying glasses to see whether insects also exhibit any love signs. That's why there are only love birds, not love insects or reptiles. I hope I have clarified your query.

Hi Samson, nice to be back here eh. I don't know why the englishman called lovers 'love birds' same as puppy love. Maybe it is soothing to the ear. English words are beautiful, they have names for all sorts of things.

Hi Samson. I love birds too! All kind of birds. I live in the country so I have a lot of them. Earlier this spring a litte titmouse landed on my head and was pecking at my hair. What a thrill. I had to stay real real still. They are wonderful to watch.
