Postal System in Canada - Reliable Still?

I was told that the postal system in Canada is reliable. I sent a letter containing a USB device 2 days ago and I just got an e-mail from the recipient that the envelope I sent did not contain the USB device.
It now makes me wonder if it is still safe to send via mail. What do you guys think?

anything of importance you should insure, in Canada or the usa, the system is reliable but anyone could have stolen it.

Hi Muelitz-here in the UK it is etting really strict as most of the time mail is scanned to make sure there is no bombs or something like that in the post-whe I live though the post is unreliable when it comes to posting it anyway cos sometimes it can take up to 3wks before the person gets the post!!-your friend littleowl
