Do any of my fibro friends out there ever need a vacation after they go on vacation because of their fibro? lol
I love going on vacation but it always puts me in a fibro flare. I make myself do things because it is fun and I want to do them, but then I get so fatigued and hurt so bad. I started hurting on the first day of our vacation and I'm still in pain!
Do y'all know what I mean?

Oh, definitely! When I have a "not too bad" day I tend to go overboard, usually with gardening. I pay for it the next day. I am right now, actually.
Yesterday, I was feeling stiff, but not too painful. I decided to get some of the many plants I have in the ground. I guess I planted 3 bushes, 2 large plants and 3 smaller ones. Ouch!!!!!!!!! Today, I can barely move!
I always soak in a hot tub when I do a lot (a lot to fibro sufferers), and I did that last night. I even used Aveeno in the tub because I got hives from the heat and humidity yesterday, plus a little sunburn. It didn't seem to do any good to soak, evidently.
I hate giving in to this disease!!! I guess I push myself a little too hard sometimes. It sounds like you do the same.
I'm on Lyrica, Ultram ER and naproxen and I know they help. I ran out of Ultram ER once for about 2 days and I couldn't believe how much my pain level shot up!
What do you do when you have a flare? Any secrets? Mine is to get off my behind and move... not too much, but moving does help ease the pain. I'm also on a diet to lose weight... the less to lug around, the easier it is. I've lost about 12 pounds so far and it seems to be helping.
How do you deal with it?

Sorry to hear you are in pain also. I do push myself too hard sometimes becaue I won't give in to the fibro.
Unfortunately I can't take any medications. At least not any that I can afford without insurance. I did recently try trazodone to help with sleeping. I was on half of the lowest dose and still dizzy all day every day for the month that I tried it. It was helping with the sleeping but I couldn't do much else, so I had to quit it.
When I'm in a flare I try to get enough rest but also do some walking and moving. And, I do take ibuprofen when in flares or on very bad pain days. Since it's all I can take I make do with it.

Can you take naproxen (Aleve)? I take 500 mg caplets twice a day. The over-the-counter Aleve can be doubled up to achieve pretty much the same effect. They are, I believe, 220 mg each. My doctor said I could take a double dose of that if I ever run out of the prescription naproxen. I've noticed a big different in my pain level since starting it.
Also, I've tried a few prescription sleeping aids, but none of them worked. They either didn't help me sleep, or I was groggy all day, like you were.
Then, a chance encounter with an emergency room doctor (well, I had an emergency and needed to be there) led me to the perfect sleep aid for me! Melatonin, 3 mg pills, one at bedtime. It works wonders!!! Not too expensive, over the counter, you find it where they sell the vitamins and supplements. I sleep a good 5 or 6 hours at a time now, compared to before when I only got 2 to 3 hours at a time.
Melatonin works fast! You take it about 10 to 20 minutes before you want to go to sleep, and believe me, you'll go to sleep! My son now takes them occasionally when he has trouble sleeping, and he loves them! I've introduced them to a few of my friends as well. They all love it for a good, restful sleep without a "hangover" feeling in the morning.
Melatonin is a chemical in our brain that helps us fall asleep, so it is a very natural product. Some of us just don't make enough of it to get a good, restful sleep. I take it every night and within 20 minutes I'm sound asleep.
I hope this helps you some!

I tried melatonin for over a year. It worked some nights and not others until it finally quit working all together.
Alive makes me loopy. Benedryl does the same thing. I have strange reactions to most medications. It's one of my main fibro symptoms in fact, and makes caring for the disease that much harder.
I'm glad that you have found things to help with your fibro.

while i dont have fibro, i have severe arthritis in my knees and hips making it hard to get around and we recently went away for a weekend and by the time you unpack and do all that laundry (we are a family of 4) you are right, you need another vacation (but one where everyone waits on you - a spa?) :-)

Hey it's me again, your fellow fibro friend. Lately, it seems that no matter what I do I have flare ups. But, I agree 100%. Are either one of you on that new medication called Lyrica? I have been on it for the last month now, and I guess it helps a little bit, but there are still really bad flare ups. My doctor wants me upped to the 100mg dose, but I have to get there slowly. I also feel extremely exhausted with this. Whenever I get a migraine it flare up my occipital neuralgia and my fibromyalgia. So I sometimes feel like I have it double dosed. I always push myself to do things, because the way I look at it is either curl up in a ball or enjoy life as much as I can.

I am not on Lyrica. My Doctor would try me on it but I have no insurance therefore can't afford it right now. I'd probably have some weird reaction to it like everything else anyway..lol.
I have heard of alot of people taking it having problems with swelling. Have you noticed that?
