I am feeling real bad for my older sister right now. She has been having a struggle with trying to sell her house, quit her job, and move to Georgia all year long. She finally sold the house and then took a trip to Georgia to look at some houses. She stayed there for two weeks, then came back to help organize her second daughter's prom and see her graduate. Her job gave her a beautiful going away party and raved about her. The following week, she was to put in her official notice for quitting. I am still not sure if she has yet. She was very reluctant to quit a great job after being there for 25 years. She and her husband and the five remaining kids packed up everything and put it in Public Storage before going to Georgia. On the 18th of this month, my brother-in-law and four of the kids flew back out here to load up a U-Haul and drive it back to Georgia. They rented a 26 foot U-Haul, the biggest one that they had and loaded it with their belongings. They drove it to the hotel where they were staying. They got up and went to breakfast the next morning. My youngest niece said that she noticed the truck was still there. Somewhere between breakfast and then coming back, someone took off with the entire truck. There was no broken glass where the truck had been parked, so we are very suspicious as to how someone stole it so fast, without having to break in. My brother-in-law was devastated and fit to be tied. Everything that he had bought for his family was in there. They had moved from a four bedroom house and almost everything in the house had been no more than six years old. My brother-in-law only buys the best of everything. There were two top of the line washers and dryers. The big ones with the front doors. There were five televisions. At least two of them were large screen. Two sets of bunk beds from Ikea. His grandmother's antique furniture. Almost all their clothes. My brother-in-law was crying so hard that he could not even talk to the police. He was just completely overwhelmed. He is the total macho type and is normally too prideful to let anyone see him crying. He did not even want his children to see him crying, but he could not hold it in. He was so upset that his blood sugar was up to 500. The hospital wanted to keep him, but he refused to stay. He told my sister to book the next flight to Georgia. He left so fast that he forgot his Insulin in the hotel refrigerator. My sister is to rush it by Fedex today. The most devastating for my sister's and me is that our family album and personal baby albums were all in there. My middle sister was so shocked that she almost fainted in church. We are hoping to get the pictures and my sister's important papers back. It would be really nice to get everything back, but that is a lot to hope for. Although, I am very sorry that this happened to my family, it was kind of a good lesson and wake up call for me brother-in-law. He is extremely materialistic. I use to live with them and there would be times when he would go off and rage and have everyone in the house crying because something was lost or broken. I am reading "The Purpose Driven Life," for the thrid time. It is talking about how when a person is on their death bed, they do not care about any of their worldly goods or achievements or degrees and things like that. No one says brings me those things so that I can admire them. The only thing that you want near you at the end is the ones who love you. If he does not learn this lesson now, he will die all alone.

I'm so sorry this has happened to your sister, Rozie. It's hard to imagine a whole truck disappearing like that from practically under their noses - and the only good thing is that a truck is very large and maybe the police will be able to trace it before your sister's belongings are sold and dispersed. It's rather ironic this has happened to such a materialistic man - and maybe it has happened to teach him a life lesson. As you say, the only important thing in life is to have our family, and your brother-in-law will see this more than ever now. I really hope the police are quick with their actions and find the truck with everything intact. It's devastating for the whole family, and I wish them all the best.

Thank you so much for your kind words. I hope that he has finally learned his lesson. It's alright to want nice things for your family, but it is certainly possible to over do it. He had also just completely remodeled the house that they had to sell. He put in top of the line everything. Not only did he have to sell the house for much less than it was worth, but because he did not get permits to do the improvements, the new owner had to completely have everything stripped out of the house. I mean, the house looked like over of the ones on the home makeover shows. My sister asked him not to spend so much money, but he insisted. I hope he never does anything like this again.
