Ok so in another discussion I had said that we are challenging ourselves to see how much greener we can be. So here is our list:
1. make and use a solar oven
2. Make our own compost bin
3. finish switching out our lightbulbs
4. step up our recycling efforts
5. give up paper towels
6. give up paper plates.
7. Use our clothes line more
8. get rain barrells made
9. not standing in front of the open fridge
10. Learn to live with our air on a constant 74 or higher.
Ok so here is the list. I will keep everyone informed on how we are doing.

I'm curious..How does one go about making a solar oven? That's something I would be interested in doing as well. The other 9 I do already and have been for years. I had a chance to buy a dryer when we bought our new washing machine but opted out being if it's here, it's too tempting to use. Hanging my clothes up to dry is better for them and the environment.

I saw the link up yonder and checked out the website. That's pretty neat how they cook using solar power. I'm definately going to try this. Would be great idea for a girl scout badge for my daugher.

Yes that would be good for her badge. My mom made one when she was in scouts many moons ago (she is 66 now). The concept has been around a long time.

what a worthwhile goal. I wish you all the best with it and shall be watching your discussions with interest!
If you're planning on making a compost bin, you could consider setting up a worm bin either instead of or as well as. they're incredibly fast workers, and can get rid of all our household waste as quick as you can chuck it in once they get going.

Good luck to you, I hope you attain all of the goals.. I need to take a few from you and use them for myself.. I will use the one about the open fridge and the air conditioner.. I may use the clothes line one also, but I would be the only person in our neighborhood to do this one.. Before I moved out to the house that we are purchasing now, I did use the clothesline everyday and enjoyed it greatly.. I may just have to be a trendsetter in my neighborhood.. Good Luck to you..
