Does laundry day have to be boring?

For me, laundry has always been one of the most boring chores in the house. I'd rather do anything else. Sometimes, I keep things mixed up by trying to invent homemade laundry recipes that will save money. Mostly just mixing together natural stuff to see what cleans best. It's a real boredom buster. Does anyone have tips for making laundry less boring? Do you have any frugal money saving tips to use for laundry day, i.e. homemade stain remover recipes? Thanks!

I do laundry every day. I have to do at least 1 load a day or else I'll be buried under it. But with 7 people, that's what happens. I don't have any special stain fighting tips, as I really don't care much about stains, after enough washes they come out. I use Era mostly for my detergent and that does a pretty good job. I get it rather cheap at Sam's Club and only have to buy it once a month or so, if that much.

I haven't used Era in ages. I'll have to put that on my shopping list! Thanks! I had completely forgotten. I have to battle some bad dirt stains. That stuff just don't want to come out. Not sure why. We have hard water, so nothing washes out easily.

Hello dear beauty queen. Yeah, I think that it is a little boring on laundry day, but all of the laundry will be dealt with by the washing machine laid in the corner of the corridor of my apartment. Thanks.

I just try to get the laundry over with and I don't do anything that would cause me to take more time doing it. I don't really take out any stains before I wash, though I should sometimes. One good thing about using my apartment's laundromat is that I can do several loads of laundry all at once. It also encourages me to get them out of the dryer and fold them, too. When we used to have our own washer and dryer, it would take all day to do the laundry and that really made it a chore!

I love those big heavy duty washer/dryers too. They make the work load light!

I don't mind doing laundry too much. I don't get bored as I am always doing other chores while they wash and dry. I have never tried making my own laundry detergent. What have you found that works best? I have tried adding baking soda when my husband gets oil or gas on his clothes to take away the smell.

I use a homemade laundry soap. My little sister comes over once every few months to make slime with me. My recipe is: 1/2 bar of soap. (I use dove or Zest) 1/2 cup washing amaze (I use this instead of washing soda as washing soda was very hard to find) 1/2 cup borax powder 1/4 cup baking soda (optional) ~You will also need a small bucket, about 2 gallon size~ Grate the soap and put it in a sauce pan. Add 6 cups water and heat it until the soap melts. Add the amaze, baking soda and the borax and stir until it is dissolved. Remove from heat. Pour 4 cups hot water into the bucket. Now add your soap mixture and stir. Now add 1 gallon plus 6 cups of water and stir. Let the soap sit for about 24 hours and it will gel. You are supposed to use about 1/2 cup per load. I just use one of the scoops from a powdered laundry detergent container. Occasionally instead of a bar of soap i will substitute 2 cups or so of regular laundry detergent so I don't have to melt it! I find it works quite well and lasts me about 2 and 1/2 months (doing 2 or three loads of laundry every week)

**A couple of things to note about the soap** ~The finished soap will not be a solid gel. It will be more of a watery gel and have a colour similar to that of the soap you grated up. (so if you use green soap it will be a pale green...blue will be a pale blue) ~The soap is a low sudsing soap. So if you don’t see suds, that is ok. Suds are not what does the cleaning, it is the ingredients in the soap. I was told this soap can be used in the HE washers.

Ummm... Yeah I think so. I have tried many ways to do laundry. I still don't find it amusing.

I hang my clothes out on the line when the weather permits. I love going out side in the early mornings and hanging the clothes out. I then have part of the day free while the laundry is drying. I then do fun stuff in between.

I don't mind doing laundry but then I don't have a lot of clothes so I have to do laundry a couple times a week. I have lost 30 pounds and still trying to lose another 15 pounds so I have very little clothes that fit me. I need to buy more but I don't want to till after I lose 15 pounds more, or those clothes will be too big on me, too, like most of the clothes I own now. I have my washer and dryer in my kitchen in a closet, sight unseen, so I don't have any stairs to take and it is easy for me to do laundry. Also I would like to say thanks for this discussion because it has reminded me that I need to go throw in a load right now. I have my last pair of clean jeans on so I need to wash my other two pairs that fit me.

I don't have a laundry day as I have to put a wash on every single day! A baby in cloth nappies plus a pretty full on outdoor lifestyle see to that! Laundry is actually one of the few household tasks I don't mind doing as there's a result you can see at the end of it, even if it's shortlived! For frugality, try cutting back on your washing detergent. I bet you don't need as much as the instructions suggest. I actually use none at all in my machine, just a splash of vinegar occassionally.

I wonder if you are listening to some good music while doing laundry. It will lessen the boredom.
