I started a discussion similuar to this one a year ago, and going back over it I didn't get many responses so I am trying again.I think it can be a fun discussion! And I think Angel for the word oompatarian!! Now most all of us know the story of Willy Wonka. Now watching it over and over again as it is my daughters favorite movie I have begun to notice some things that make me wonder about Willy and his motives. Now Mr. Wonka states that he shut the factory down to outsiders due to thevery. Shortly there after his factory starts making candy again. Now we are all aware of outsourcing, we understand the concept behind it. It seems to me that but giving the Oompas coco beans he has reduced his costs considerably. And while Mr. Wonka holds that he "saved" the oompa loompas for a terrible fate, lets look at a few things. First off, the oompa loompas do not leave the factory. While he does feed and shelter them, they are probably earning less then minimum wage. While he gives them what they crave most, it still seems to me that it can be considered slave labor. After all if a crack head works for someone just to get their fix, that would mean that they are dependant to that person. While it might seem that the person is helping them, how much help are they really getting? Secondly Have you heard the songs they sing? Terribly depressing and a more than a little mean. If they are so happy with Mr. Wonka shouldn't their songs reflect that? And last but not least, why would Mr. Wonka want a child to be his heir and then tell said child that he can't bring his family? Brainwashing perhaps so that Mr. Wonka can be assured of the oompa loompas continued living conditions? I beleive that we need to look into this further and see exactly what Mr. Willy Wonka is up to. What to you think?

Ah but you see that is the gift that Roald Dahl leaves his readers with - questions on so many levels and he does has a rather dark sense of humour at times - and that bit of darkness was transferred into the film too! I have to say though that I fear if we freed the Oompah Loompahs they would be bullied by mean people as they look different - we would need to educate people so that they accepted the Oompah Loompahs first! xxx

Aww Bless your heart sweetheart I hate to break this to you but Niamh (6) told me to tell you that the Oompah Loompahs are actually fictional characters and they are not real! So sorry but Niamh made me tell you! Hugs xxx

We can always put them back in their natural habitat, And enclose it for them to keep out the predators. And of course plant cocoa plants so they can have cocoa beans whenever they want!! They will be able to leave if they want, and life out their lives peacefully lol.

rotflmao Oh dear, Erilyn I do believe after all this time you would have gotten over your obsession with the kind, but eccentric Willy Wonka. Must I once again "dig" up facts for you :))) LMAO He is the original long suffering, generous, Oompatarian! Have you ever wondered why the Oompa loompas were hunted down by beast and demon like creatures in their own habitat? Could it be the very nature of their personalities cried to be hunted to extinction? Why was it that they were so totally cut of from the rest of the world? one would have to consider the fact that the predators that preyed upon the flesh of loompas, wer in fact the safe guards in place to keep the population at bay and to save the outside world of a total infestation? If this indeed is true then Mr. Wonka is not only a brave and heroic "Oompatarian" but he is also a humanitarian and serving the human world at large by keeping the loompas safe in a controlled environment suited only for oompa loompas!

Angel, I am not going to give up the good fight!! But if they are that dangerous, then why have them making chocolate for the population? Wouldn't that be considered a bad thing? MAybe the cut themselves off from the rest of the world cause they knew that if anyone knew their secert obsession for coco beans it can be turned against them. Mr. Wonka won't let anyone close enough to the oompa loompas to talk to them to ask their opinion. Maybe it is becasue he knows that in talking to them that his secert will be revealed. And with all the money he has who is to say that he did not put those predators there just so that he can come in later and look like a savior? Histories are always written by the victor, and can be made to look like whatever they want it to. How inconcivable would it be for Mr. Wonka to have only told his side of the story? And under duress made the oompa loompas agree with him. It could be stockholm syndrom all over again!! I will not give up the fight until all the true facts are in the open!!!! FREE THE OOMPA LOOMPAS!!!!
