What do you do before heading off to go on vacation?

When I am going on vacation, I like to make sure the post office is holding my mail, my pets are at someone's house, My bag is packed, the doors are all locked, the garagedoor is disabled, and that all of the appliances in the house are unplugged including tvs, computers and even toasters and coffee makers. Vacations are fun, but I will only travel if I know where I am going, where I will stay, and sometimes where I could eat. I like to have everything organized, so I don't end up at a Motel 8.

We live in a very old house so in addition to what you listed I always make sure to shut the water off and turn down the water heater to the lowest setting possible.
We haven't been on a "fun" vacation in years. Usually we go to visit family or to attend a wedding. One of these days I'd love to vacation just for the fun of it. Our whole family did that every year when I was growing up. By the time I was 15 I'd been in 36 states, Canada and Mexico and saw more than most people get to see in a lifetime. Lots of good memories.
