The British are looking to begin a program of offering financial 'carrots' for recyclers. They are considering using a company called the RecycleBank. People who join up can get points per pound of recycled rubbish.
*
The scheme began in the USA in 2004.
*
Households earn vouchers for every pound of waste they recycle. The vouchers can be redeemed for many things including groceries or coffees at the local coffee shop.
*
The program is win-win. Vouchers are paid for with the money they save by keeping stuff out of the landfill. There is only one bin needed for recycling as the company sorts the trash.

That's actually a great idea. I know a lot of people that are too lazy to recycle anything.
With this economy, I'm sure they would do it. Here we pay the garbage company to pick up the recycled stuff along with the trash.
It would be awesome if the started this program here. The only thing we have here that I know of is the can/bottle recycling reimbursement.

We don't even have that at my apartment complex. My landlord stopped putting out the blue wheelie bins cuz they kept getting blown down the street by our wind.

As a shut in, I can't take the crap to the center.
