What is your best idea for keeping bugs away?

I love to walk and exercise in the evenings or even the early mornings. These last few years with the concerns about mosquitoes, I wondered what you use. I am looking for something natural and baby friendly. I heard that rubbing orange peel on you before going out is an option, but I am concerned about pesticides and the like of course. I saw in Rural King where they have lye soap that apparently repels mosquitoes, but I am not sure about that either.

I've never tried this and have no idea if it works (and quite frankly think that it sounds crazy), but somewhere I heard that mouthwash (like Listerine) - put into a spray bottle and sprayed all over you - can drive the bugs away. We had a wave of biting black flies (the little kind) that were nasty; they'd bite the kids and leave a mess... but we didn't know of anything to repel them...

The Avon Skin so soft is great at repelling those varmints. Make sure to get the original formula. Lye is very bad for your skin so I would not use that soap even though it has been around for thousands of years.

I actually read a fiction book where it described them making lye soap and it sounded dangerous. I just am positive that isn't the right thing to use on a baby.

I did a little bit of internet research and found this website http://chemistry.about.com/cs/howthingswork/a/aa050503a.htm I thought it had some good tips on there. When it comes to the list of oils that repel mosquitoes, I have often heard that catnip oil can be used in a recipe; however, I later read that this can attract bees and fire ants, which may be worse than mosquitoes... good luck though.
