How Often Do You Use Your Hobbies to Escape Reality?

How often do you feel you are so bothered by real life that you HAVE to do something you like to get rid of the negative thoughts in your head? Do you actually feel better after doing your hobbies for awhile? As some of you might notice these days I don’t want to think about work, so I play some video games at night just to think about something else! I think it works *laughs*, at least I was really concentrating myself on the game! I usually feel better afterwards. What about you?

hi wonderice! whenever i feel pessimistic, whenever i feel the world is against me, and all the people are bad towards me and i keep thinking bad about them, i always turn to my hobbies to divert my mind and attention. i don't like feeling down and bad, polluting my mind with evil thoughts, ^__^;; so i do things that makes me smile and relax. i would surf the internet, watch tv, read a pocketbook, or go out and shop. ^__~ sometimes i would play with my little niece and nephew.

Since I'm really very stressed at work now. I do it everyday. It is good for me though because my hobby which is magic requires constant practice so that it would always look good. Not only I am bale to remove stress but I also become a better magician.

Hah! Since we are retired, our hobbies ARE our reality! But I do know what you mean. When we were still working I always logged onto the computer for a few minutes of game-playing just before bed every night. It helped to relax and forget the goofiness of the work day and was therefore conducive to good sleep. If I don't want to do housework, I escape to the computer.

Hello wondericequeen, I do believe that when you concentrate on what you like the most, you can just forget whatever problems in your head. Whenever I am worried about something, I just divert my thinking to something I like to do. It will just make me forget about my problem though it is just for awhile...

It's actually been a while since I've done my hobby of writing poetry. I like to release my feeling through poems. I just haven't even thought about it, but I'm sure it will start coming in my mind now that I've read your discussion. I love to play games as well. When I start to get extremely frustrated I tend to play the games to get my mind of also. It's crazy, cause I end up getting really into the games. I enjoy them very much.

I use them continually. Reality, at the moment, really sucks! I write novels as escapism. Screw the real world. I much prefer my own.
