They Must Be Dumb To Be So Obvious!

Each time I sign into my Yahoo IM, I get these stupid spam messages. They have a normal user name with them, but their first messages to me are so obviously spam that it ain't funny--actually, it IS rather funny because they're obviously dumber than a box of rocks!
I've copied an example of such a "message" to paste here.

Not all messages are exactly alike, but they all have the common trait of being--at least, in part--a bunch of jibberish.
Please explain to me why they make it so obvious that they're sending me spam. I simply ignore and report each and every one of them!

Ha ha , I get these as well, and I hit the ignore button then report them, i really can't stand these messeges and have often wondered why they are picking in me, as I don't use my messenger the way I used to.

Nobody's being picked on. They just come along and find people and go after them! I think that these spammers must study the methods of mosquitoes and flies when it comes to being a collective annoyance!

P.S. If it's of any consolation to you, you and I are both earning a penny or two for simply discussing them, so, if they're trying to be 100% annoying, the jokes on them! neener-neener-neener...

I do not use the Yahoo messenger. It might be that they want you to reply to it and then they will know your address. NO person in their right mind would write such nonsense. It also might be in code. Now that might be hard, I can see the first word, but the others, they rather are just nonsense.

They must use different codes, because each one is different. The only thing they have in common besides (usually) having a word or phrase that makes some sense is that most of the message looks as if a Boston Terrier has been "typing" on that person's keyboard! LOL

That baffles me too, what could they possible accomplished from these? I don't see any attachment so probably this is just a DOS(denial of service) attack. They are hoping that they could clog Yahoo that will somehow interrupt Yahoo service. I haven't encounter this in gmail or maybe my address is not so often use. but Yahoo should have some kind of filter for this sort of thinks.

This has only affected me as far as using Yahoo IM goes. I have a Riversongs e-mail account. Could be that they're trying to upset the IM system.
I do know that one of my friends went through some kind of glitch where--when she used her Yahoo mail--all of her e-mail was shown to people to whom she wrote (like me). I told her that she needed to tend to that, and that I was going to destroy the e-mail she sent me and hadn't looked at any of her correspondence.
She thanked me for that--and was disgusted when she talked to customer service there and they treated this situation as if it were no big thing.

Hi AJ1952Chats! I do received those kind of emails and I just delete them. I really don't understand how the minds of these people work and why they make it so obvious. However, I am glad that they make it obvious for us to see so that we will never fall into their trap in opening them and later find out that the email has a virus in it. Yikes!
Take care and God Bless!

This time, I'm not talking about e-mails but, instead, messages of the instant message (IM) type that I find when I sign into YAHOO IM.
However, I've had e-mails like that, too, in the past, though not lately. It looks like a bunch of Chinese writing scrambled in with a bunch of Greek writing scrambled in with a bunch of Russian writing, and who knows WHAT else.
Anyway, off they go!!!

I get them so much, I just send them to spam without opening. I have a mantra, if it is not from someone I know and don't look legit, it gets deleted...saves a lot of problems cause usually my email list is exclusive so I know if a friend or someone else is sending me a real email.

Nothing to open. These are IMs sent to me during the time that I have my IM turned off. I'm more than glad to ignore, report, and get rid of them whenever I find them...

I get them all the time too, and I think it has something to do with capturing your address or something ... if you just report them they don't get anything, but if you answer them at all, even to tell them to get lost, they can probably tap into you somehow.
I put them on ignore and report.

Thanks for being the first one to respond and explain this to me. I'm very glad now that I've been doing the same as you: ignoring and reporting.
Some people will also start out like having an honest conversation with me, but one ID will be listed as his/her username but then the person will first identify herself/himself as being one person (different name) and then another (different name yet).
Then, he or she will share a link to a website that looks like a bunch of punctuation marks and symbols of different kinds.
Wish they'd all bug off--and I can tell you that they're wasting their time with me, and I report each one as soon as I'm on to him/her.
