Have You Ever Been to "The Big Read"?

Our city is doing a reading of To Kill a Mockingbird this year for "The Big Read". What I've gathered from their advertisements, is that this is an event where you listen to people read this book. Since I really enjoyed the book back when I read it (despite struggling through actually reading it on paper instead of audio), I was thinking about attending.
Has anyone here ever been to "The Big Read"? Was it enjoyable? Would you do it again? Why or why not? What were your favorite and least favorite things about the experience?

I've never been to a book reading, but have been to many play readings, and I've really enjoyed them. I would imagine it would be fun to hear the book read in a situation where you can share the experience with others - like the difference between seeing a movie with a crowd or watching it at home. The only thing I don't like about hearing a book read (ie audio tapes) is that you can't stop and think about it. Have fun and let us know what it was like!

I read audiobooks almost exclusively because of a visual disorder. When I'm reading something for class and need to pause and think about what's going on and the implications of it, I just press pause and resume once I've grasped what the ideas are.
I am definitely thinking this reading thing will be cool like a movie. I'm going to see if I can drag someone else along and make a fun time out of it.
