It's been a nice Day here, sunny, but not too warm, and the Local town Summer festival has had one of it's Highspots today,a Charity Trucker's Convoy circuiting Lough Erne..I didn't stand still watching the (what must have been) over 100 Rigs,Cement Lorries,Low Loaders, and Tractor Units passing my house on the route...I'd left my back door open to get some airflow, and Heard my cat give a yowl..He's usually quiet in the house, except for "Feed Me",or "I want out-Pronto!" this was something different..I went into the kitchen, and He was Hustling one of the local black and white cats back out the open back door..and as I've just gone in to make something to eat, there's a suspicous space where the bit of leftover salmon I'd left used to be...HEY! Stop that Cat!!! Don't cats respect one another's space? the interloper came in past my cat's litter box..Have you ever had a strange cat visit your house?

Since all my cats are inside only, I never leave doors open, so no strange cats could come in, like my cats would allow it anyway. Of course, if I left anything out, it'd be cat food anyway with my horde! And, no, cat's don't respect anyone's space, Cats remember they were once worshipped as Gods, they continue to act like it and they won't let anyone else forget it either.

lol your cat certainly did a good job protecting your home. he did hustle the local cat out the door eventually right? though not before the cat managed to steal that leftover it of salmon. i've ever returned home to see 'my' cat run out from the kitchen. for a moment i thought my cat was burnt as he was all black. not until after my cat run out from the kitchen after the black cat did i release there was an intruder. but the poor intruder was so shocked by my return that he peed while making his getaway.

I actually got adopted by a cat in this manner. I was living in an efficiency on the bottom floor when this happened. We always opened our windows for air and we didn't have a screen. One day, an all black cat just hopped in the window and looked at us like the dog from Looney Tunes. "You ain't got not cat and I ain't got no master." Just hopped in and made herself at home. We did keep her for a little while, but we weren't allowed pets in the apartment building and word did get back to the rental office that we had her. They sent an eviction notice so it became her or us. We ended up putting her out.

I've had it done and I've had a cat who did it!! In the first case, I had a little Siamese who'd had kittens. They and all the adult cats were in the house, but I had left my bedroom window open so they could come and go while I was at work. When I came home from work one day, I walked in and Chelsea (the Siamese) was frantically meowing, coming up to me, standing up and putting her front feet on me, and trying to get me to follow her. This was NOT normal behavior for her. She first led me to a kitten lying underneath the television, still breathing, but bleeding profusely from his jugular. She then led me to the bedroom where what I found on the floor beneath the window could NEVER be described as having been a kitten if not for the fur lying about. She was absolutely beside herself. I've always assumed it was a tomcat who got in because the window was not open any more than it had been and if it had been a human, in their haste to leave would have pushed it open more. But, she had apparently been fighting with the tom over the last kitten and it was literally torn apart. I, too, lost it and went running to the neighbors crying - her husband went to my house and cleaned up the bedroom for me as I couldn't handle it. I took care of the kit under the television. That was probably a bit more than a cat-burglary. On a lighter note, my Johnny cat (he looked like the cat of litter fame) decided that since my neighbor also had a Johnny cat (named Johnny-5) and kept her door open because she didn't have a cooler, that he could help himself to HER Johnny's food whenever he wanted. I'd often hear a screech and see MY Johnny almost literally FLY through our back door being chased by HER Johnny when he found his food being usurped by my cat. But, there would be times when my Johnny would come prancing in with a pork chop bone and I'd have to check with Carol to make sure he didn't take her cat's bone. Sometimes she just treated him because when he smelled pork chops, he'd come begging. It's unusual that a cat would venture that far into a home the first time, so I'm betting he's been in there before and no one saw him, and now he felt comfortable enough to "go for broke". Unless he's a true alleycat and smelled salmon and saw the opportunity to have a decent meal for once. None of that trash can delight!! Not tonight!!

The first kit did die - I had no way to stop the bleeding. But, I didn't let them go out any more while I wasn't there. That's been over 27 years ago. Johnny's been gone for almost 9 years - we were moving and he jumped from the truck in a panic because he was afraid of both trucks and men. We tried to keep hold of him, but he exploded from our arms, went through the window in the back of the cab and found a way out of the bed of the truck, even with the cap on. We never found him or any remains, so my hope is he survived and found a new family. I posted notices, but never heard anything, good or bad. But, I still have Johnny's mother - she's 22 now. Her age is definitely showing, but she's very active, although just a bit slower than before, and not at all ready to call it quits. She's fixed as is my other cat, Chloe, who is 8.

Thank you for the BR. I recently lost Johnny's mom at age 23. Her kidneys had shut down and she was unable to eat. She still had a good temperament and was purring until the end, but it was and is a sad thing. I'd never had a cat that long before. I still have Chloe, and now my daughter's cat, Tiki, who's one.

They're a part of Your life when you have them around, aren't they? And You miss them when they're gone...I thought my cat had picked up a cat flu a few months ago,and took him to the Vet..they told me he had a growth that was causing the breathing difficulty, which they later defined as an inoperable tumour..they gave me a course of Steroids for him and let me take him home..his 9 lives ran out before the tablets did..
