'Unable to post content. Please modify your post.....' Modify? It deleted it!

Help! I was just trying to post a new discussion up. It was quite an in depth one and took a while to write and to think up, and then I thought (as the option was there) to add an image too. I hope the same doesn't happen to this post, although I won't try adding an image here. It was a discussion on the summer holidays and as it was in the parenting category I thought I would add a photo of my son and I. I typed out the message, and then scrolled down and to the image part and tried uploading the photo. I didn't save the message first as the only option was to preview or post it, so I went to image first. The image seemed to take an age to upload and then it came up with the above. 'unable to post content. please modify your post....' and then about the post only containing letters, numbers and standard punctuation. It said modify it, which would have been fine if I could see what needed modifying, but it cleared the whole post! I am sure there was nothing in it that shouldn't have been there anyway. Is it because I tried uploading an image? If so, then I don't understand why the add image link is there. Can anyone shed any light on this for me please so I can avoid it happening again. Now I wished I had saved the message somehow first. In fact for this one I am going to right click and copy, just in case. Ah hang on this is no good either as I haven't enough postings to copy and paste yet. Oh well then here goes and fingers crossed that it posts ok. Can anyone help a confused person please?

Thanks for the reply. You could be right although the photo is of both of us. I havent attempted uploading an image to discussion since. I have put them at the top of interest pages though where others are. Maybe I need to start a very short post discussion and try adding a photo to it. Thing is I don't just want to start something just for the sake of it.

Don't worry about it! You didn't do anything wrong. It's just the typical gremlins in the Mylot machine. You'll get used to it after awhile. If you could copy/paste that would be great. But you won't get that function until you reach 500 points. Welcome to Mylot! It's a fun planet!

Thanks for the reply. Its not happened since so hopefully those myLot gremlins have disappeared. ;) I am on a mission to get to my 500 posts by the end of the month if possible, which will be some task, but then I can copy/paste too as you said. It means then that I can just copy a message when I have written a long one, and then if those gremlins come back, I can paste it again and not let them get the better of me :0

Unfortunately I can't find it in any of the FAQ or TOS but you're not allowed to post images until you have 500 posts to your name. I really think there should be a list of things you can do at certain numbers of posts, but there isn't one. As to why it deleted the post entirely I couldn't tell you. I once tried to post a comment that had a word that I didn't think was really R or X rated in it, but my settings were set to G and it wouldn't let me post it. I suppose all the rules are there for a reason, but sometimes they're a bit irritating.

Thanks for the reply and very interesting. I would explain it though. I agree a list of things you get and can do at a certain amount of posts would not only be very useful but I'm sure it would encourage more posting. Sort of like an incentive! There wasn't anything in my post that could have been classed as x rated or anything as I was discussing plans for the summer hols only. I have stopped stressing over the post deletion now, and will probably redo it later - minus the photo this time. Was irritating at the time though, and I am sure other newbies like me have had the same problem at some time Happy myLotting and thanks again :)
