ACK! A hurricane is heading right for us! I'm kinda freaking out because I've never been in one before! Right now, it's a category 1, which means winds up to 90mph, flooding, and probable loss of electricity. We've been preparing as best as we know how today, getting water, non-perishable foods, batteries, gas, etc. I just hope it's all enough. My husband has to work at the hospital tomarrow, so he can't leave. I'm supposed to be able to go up to the hospital, which has generators, but since I won't know anyone there and we can't bring our pets, I may just go over to some friend's house who have a generator. What would you do in a situation like this? Which do you think is best: going up to the hospital or going to my friend's house? PLEASE send some "safe vibes" our way!

Cat 1? LOL That's nothing. Unless you live in an area that is near a lake that can get rough and push water over the edge or live in a flooding area, you should be fine. I would just go stay with your friend for the company.

Well, we live 2 blocks away from a small river that's prone to flooding when it rains. At least that's what I've heard.... I definately don't want to be here by myself - company of any sort would be better!

Hi wrld, Im sorry to hear about this...That is really scary! If I were you, I guess it will be good to stay in your friend's house,It's comforting when we have someone to talk with! Take care and let us know! We will pray for everyone there!

Hi there wrld, I live in the McAllen area and that's all I have heard about all day long. I work for the city and we are preparing for the hurricane just in case it hits us. I would probably say your safest bet would be to see if your friends would keep your pets at their home and you go to the hospital. Take some things to do while at the hospital so that you don't go crazy. If you feel like your friends house is safe enough you could go there, but if their electricity goes out then you will still be in the same boat you would have been at staying at your own home.

WOW - someone somewhat close to me! We haven't lived here long, and I've never lived anywhere "hurricane-prone!" The reason I was thinking about staying at my friend's house is because they have a generator. Do you think it would still be better to go up to the hospital? They'd probably let me take the kitties there, but I'm pretty sure they'd want me to take care of them. I'm just really apprehensive about all this!
