the Pen

With technology advancing as fast as jet planes, i was wondering if there will come a day when the Pen as we know it will become extinct. Just look around you. Non-verbal communication is now normally done by SMS (or texting, to put it simply) or e-mail. When you say "pen" it usually refers to the stylus used for clicking things on an iPhone. Even the word "notebook" now referes to the annorexic laptop. There's this thing call the "word Processor" where writers and ordinary people type away their ideas. Even writing checks is obsolete (the "plastic" or credit/debit card is more in). And what about the lowly pen or pencil? What will become of them? MyLotters, do you thing the "Pen/Pencil" will one day become extinct?

Someone else asked this a while back, and I can't really see it happening. And I'm someone who loves gadgets and electronic fooferaw. We'll always have pens. Paper is portable, it doesn't need a power source, it doesn't need a couple of minutes to boot up. You can't take your shopping list down to the store on a PC (well, actually, I've done this with a PDA, but it's really more trouble than it's worth). If SMSes become popular enough, will people lose the ability to speak? Same thing, really ;)

hehehehehe. I got your point. And a good one, too. Maybe the pen wont go extinct, but it will, correct me if i'm wrong, "evolve" into something more modern and technologically advance. hehehe. i think i pitched the wrong question there. heheheh. thanks for the insights.

I dunno if it'll evolve or not. It's like the old anecdote about the Space Race: Back in the day, the US spend hundreds of thousands of dollars developing a pen that would work in zero gravity, so that the astronauts could write things down while they were in space, and the ink would flow properly. The Russians gave the astronauts pencils. Sometimes, simpler is better ;)
