Watching The Clock While Ebaying

As I write this I'm back and forth at ebay...watching the clock..now that I have some extra cash to burn since I have that IRS Check issue resolved, I plan to do a little splurging on myself...something I haven't done in ages...there are a number of home improvement things I want to do, like get new floor tiles for my kitchen, heck might even paint up the place a bit. But besides some very practical things that I really need (like a new bed and mattress) I WANT TO HAVE SOME FUN with the money. There have been a few DVDs I've been dying to get...like Louise Hay's You Can Heal Yourself DVD, and James Arthur Ray's Harmonic Wealth...and some fun ones like Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix.... Anyway...I came across the You Can Heal Your Life DVD at ebay...for a real steal...there's only about fifteen more minutes left for bidding but I haven't bid YET...I'm watching the clock to when it gets down to the last few minutes then bid..I've done this before and it almost guarantees me to win it. So to turn this into a discussion...if you bid at ebay, do you do the same thing? Wait until the last final minutes before bidding? Did you get any bargains that way? Uh, excuse me now...got to go back to ebay...LOL

I don't buy anything on ebay except maybe some dvds on occasion, but they are always too expensive. The sellers always add huge shipping charges and it is so not worth it, especially for used dvds. I seldom ever go into e bay for anything....and people can get addicted to it.

The shipping charge was only $2.99 which I thought was reasonable...I won the DVD I was watching..a total of $15.99 with shipping....it normally sells for $29.95..this is a new copy not used also

I agree with sumof that the shipping costs often makes a "deal" no deal at all. After bidding on a few keyboards and not getting anywhere, I finally used the "buy it now" feature because the ones I had been bidding on hadn't gone for any less than full price, anyway. And when shipping was added, it was the same as retail! But I wanted to use the "free" money in my PayPal account, so I bought it anyway. (Plus, I wanted the Apple keyboard before the flat one.)

Usually, I do - I did bid on something last week early and it was mine until the last few seconds, and two others went head to head on it. I didn't watch it because I really couldn't afford to bid any higher at that time. There have been a few rare occasions where I used a "sniper" to bid for me. I don't particularly like them since the majority don't use them or don't know about them, so it's not fair to them. But, I wasn't going to be able to keep an eye on the bid, so I used the sniper to do it for me. Unfortunately, on one, I was outbid before the thing was over. I did get the other item, but there were very few bids besides mine anyway. My ebay name is JerZGirlZ (a "Z" at the end because it's me and my daughter on the account). Good luck - your 15 minutes is long over by now, so I hope you got it!!

Yup, I won it, and I thought at a real bargain. A few others must have been doing the same thing and watching the clock as I kept getting outbid too, but then would re-bid..not much more though..The full regular cost of the DVD, and this is the 2-disc extended version goes for $29.95...I won it for $15.99 with shipping, a nice bargain I thought!

When going to Ebay, I have to be real careful there, otherwise I will spend over my Ebay budget. If one is smart about their shopping they can find some real good deals on there. I know because I now have nearly over 300 DVD's..opps . But those were bought over an expanse of several years of doing the Ebay thing. This year I seem to be on a crafting kick, so have been catching some great deals with buying craft supplies in bulk from there. My latest romp through Ebay craft lot bargains, landed me with a case of 10,000 beads (assorted), 6 spools of beading wire, and 5 spools of beading floss for only $4.00 and that included shipping. You can imagine I was floating on cloud nine when I found that..lol! I don't bid often on there though, seems I don't have much luck with the bidding system there, so I usually just stick with what I can find within the buy it now items. Can't lose with those, unless you are a serious slow poke at pressing the buy it now button...lol! I'm glad to read about you winning your DVD. Hope it gets to you quickly and you are able to enjoy it in a timely fashion.

I actually have around 500 DVD's total, but 300 of them were bought off Ebay. The other 200 are one's that were given to me as gifts, are family videos I burned to DVD from VHS, so they'd last longer or ones that I got from Wal-Mart (see I do buy them other places..lol)But yeah, the Ebay sellers are usually a happy lot when I come around...lol From time to time I have gone into the luxury items and taken a gander at them. It is nice to dream and heck nice to have some wishful thinking going on as well. One just never knows that one day that dream may come true.

LOL - know this discussion is a bit out of date but came across it looking for some 'tips' on selling on ebay. I need to make some money regularly and am looking into doing business with ebay... I've never bought or sold anything on ebay before so can't really add to your discussion except hope you got a great deal on the DVD you wanted :) big hugs to you friend :)

True, right now I sell my crafts but was thinking of expanding and selling some other things too but I'm not finding a lot of possitive for the sellers at ebay - the market seems to be saturated and see a ton of items with no bids. I have looked at etsy for crafts and may end up going there but for the time being think I'll stick with spending more time promoting my own site.

To be honest, I think the only things that sell well over at ebay are anything related to electronics, or ink for printers, DVDs, CDs and maybe even books....anything other than that it's hard to sell

I know you do a lot of crafts, right? You might have better luck trying to sell your work over at Etsy.com. They're more into craft work selling. I tried selling my work there at ebay and didn't get a nibble

It depends upon what I am bidding on and if I really want it if I will wait to the last minute to bid on ebay or if I bid and walk away. It also depends what I am doing when the time runs out. If I am not going to be around when the time runs out I will bid and walk away and think if I get it then I was meant to get it.

There are a few other things I wouldn't mind bidding on, but wouldn't be able to watch the clock and bid at the last moment...I try and just wait for something I can watch for, rather than bid and be outbidded later on.

There is an easier way, then just sitting watching the clock. It's called sniping an auction and it works like this. You sign up with a sniping company (I think eBay might have their own) and you set you maximum bid. Then you set when you want your bid to trigger (I like setting mine to trigger with 6 seconds remaing) If your bid is under the current offer, then it triggers and you can become the high bidder, leaving next to no remaining time to be outbid. There are some sites that offer 5 free snipes each week or you can pay $5 a month for an unlimited # of snipes. I think it's a great way to keep yourself out of bidding wars and free yourself up from clock-watching. If you bid on a lot of items, you could probably save more than the monthly fee, by signing up for the unlimted snipes. I hope you're getting cash back from eBay everytime you win an auction too!!

Well that might be an easier way of doing things but I don't think ebay does have that...but heck...I just find it plain fun to watch the clock and bid at the last moment....And no, one never gets cash back from winning an ebay auction

I like to bid on items when I see them, that way I can't forget and go back. I figure out the max I want to spend - including shipping - and bid that. If I don't win, oh well! I have been hitting ebay for school shorts for my son and making out like a thief! I don't think a lot of people are school shopping just yet for uniforms.

I think I've been lucky that I really haven't overspent at ebay...I'm the opposite, I just plain don't bid on an item at all but "watch" it...it seems once you bid on something hours or days ahead chances are you'll be outbid...it's like all of a sudden people come out of the woodwork and bid on the item, even if it's not popular..so that's why I watch the clock..and bid a few minutes before the bidding closes....99 percent of the time I get the item and at a REAL steal...heehee

Hi pyewacket! Good luck dear friend! I do hope you will win the bid. I haven't bid anything yet on ebay but my friends have done the same thing that you are doing, that is to wait for the last minute before bid ends. Most of the times, they win. Take care and God Bless!

That's exactly what the "power bidders" do. I've been outbid with 30 seconds to go before. BTW. You might check out the "Sedona Method" (http://www.sedona.com) since you're into the self-help field. If you like what you see, let me know. I'm in charge of seeing that products are shipped and I have authority to ship "complimentary copies". :)

I wait till the last seconds as well. If you do it earlier, the price just goes up too high, too fast. I'm glad to see you've got some bargains. I find you really have to make sure you know the price of shipping before you bid, if not, you can get a nasty surprise at the end.

Since I'm hunting around for a new bed out of curiosity I looked at beds over at ebay, and nearly fainted...many add a $200 shipping fee...like HUH? Why get it there when I can get free shipping if I get a bed from a store like Target..what a ripoff, right?

That is why I lose so many auctions! My daughter was bidding on some books that she likes- She is 11 so she uses my account- with my approval. A lot of the auctions that she bid on were all closing after our bed time. We bid before bed and then wake up to see we got outbid in the final minutes of the auction- It irritates me to no end. It's the time zone thing I know- We are EST--- and I bet a Pacific person won the bid. There will always be more auctions- but I hate to lose in the last minute! I hope you won yours!

I generally bid when I find what I want, but watch the clock at the end because a lot of people do what you are doing. I've lost stuff that way, or got into bidding wars at the last few seconds, but I generally put my bid in for what I will pay and let it go. If I get outbid, then I don't get the item. It's easy to get caught up in the moment and bid way to much for something because you get caught up in the rush of "I've gotta win!" at the last minute. A couple of times I've lost things because the site freaked out or the site was overloaded and my bid didn't get in in time. The page would time out or it would ask me to log in, or was I sure I wanted to bid, several times and by the time I passed thru all of that stuff the auction was over. lol I tend to stay away from Ebay because it's easy to get carried away or find things I want but can't afford. lol It's the same reason I don't window shop. lol

I'm relieved I finally got it resolved too..actually all total this was going on since February to get it cleared up---the first check they sent me was in my mother's name...like duh? Then the second had my name first, but with the added words personal representative so my bank couldn't accept it...so had to send THAT check back...LOL..I plan to put some of my money into my savings ....and hopefully NOT touch it except for real dire emergencies

Oh yes! I do watch the clock. And it turns my stomach into knots! I have such buyer's anticipation. I keep waiting for that last two minutes and then post. And then turns out the person before me has already bid up to a certain amount so that I have to rebid again. Last time I had a big pack of Polly Pockets with furniture (200 plus pieces) and my daughter would have loved it. Was going to be $15. But last minute bidding drove the price above $25. Pity me, I had only $23.86 in my Paypal account from the previous month's Mylotting! Boo hoo! Poor baby girl didn't get her dollies!

I waatch the clock all the time when im bidding on ebay..esp if there are a lot of bids on it already, first its the only way to be sure u get the item, and second, you get the best deals, cuz if you bid early, others bid over you, and you end up having to bid higher ... most times the less bids done early, the more likely you will get it in the end, even if everyone hits it at the same time...lol
