Sign Language at a Concert

I went to a concert just last night and witnessed what seemed to be something quite unusual at first; however, the more I considered it, it didn't seem so odd. There was a woman translating the words of the music into sign language. I know the hearing impaired can feel beats of music and enjoy just as those without hearing difficulties, but it actually never occurred to me to feature a sign-language interpreter at a concert. It was wonderful and beautiful to watch her sign. Although I personally don't know sign language, I thought she expressed the words so beautifully and full of emotion as she let the music take hold of her body and flow through to share the words with those who might not be able to hear them. It was very special to watch this performance and know that everyone could enjoy it as much as I did.

Yes, sign language is an awesome thing!! I have a couple of friends who are deaf, they walk around with pen and paper for people who don't know sign language. It's really interesting, because there are actually Different sign languages! But osme of them are the same! Like, french and english sign language is the same, but German is different!

That's neat. I never really considered that either! Might be something fun to learn.

I just listen to the music and the words and do not pay attention to those who do the sign language. I also am not one who thinks oh this is so wonderful that someone is letting the deaf people enjoy the music. I know that they can hear the beats but I realize that some of them may have gotten deaf not that long ago, and so they wish that they could hear the music, and some of them were deaf since infancy, and they wish that they could also hear the music and the words, listen to the voices of their children, and hear the loving words of their spouse or loved ones. So there is a bitterness to all this.

Wow, why shouldn't they be included though if they can go to a concert and enjoy that? We cannot help how we are born for certain, and maybe they DID listen to loud music and develop hearing impairment, or go to war and have a bomb explode ten feet from them, but if they like concerts and people signing for them at concerts, why not do it??
