This is the greates news I have ever had, may be the food prices in my country will come down-life has become a night mare here in Uganda-every food item has increased 50% and all they say is that fuel prices are high!

from what I heard:
the demand for oil is decreasing because it got so expensive, hence the price drops. so this is a downwards way.. untill we ask again for more oil. but I must say: the current prices ARE CRAZY.

Reminds me of petrol rationing in Rhodesia.
A farmer friend managed to get hold of a 44 gal drum of petrol and told his farm labourers to dig a hole and put it in the hole then cover it up.
He came back later and there was the drum - empty!
They had dug the hole and poured the petrol into the hole and then covered up the hole.
44 gal drums are valuable in Africa! haha
We are still over $10 a gallon for petrol (gas) in the UK!

I've always thought that most Americans
spend way too much time tooling around in
their SUVs and oversized gas monsters for their own good!
Gas prices really don't affect us cause we have
a small car. And it uses less than $10 weekly
in gas.

Well, it looks as if things are getting better, but it is hard to tell. The 70s had their own energy crisis, but it doesn't seem like people have learned. Another energy crisis will happen sooner or later. I don't want oil guys digging up our coastlines or Alaska using this as an excuse to make more oil-money. The answer to the problem is to rework ourselves so we are less dependent on oil. Digging up new oil wells just enables us to put the problem out of mind.
Renewable energy also helps mitigate global warming by releasing less CO2. I think there are a great number of reasons to look away from oil. I think we need big wigs and government officials to keep their eye on the big picture.

From what I have heard, the US has finally gotten clearance to drill for oil on our own land. Now the oil companies over seas are scared because they know that means they are not going to get our money anymore, so they are lowering their prices. From what I've heard, it will take about 18 months to get our own oil, at which point it should be much cheaper. Let's hope that's true.

The US have been keeping their own reserves of oil intact for years now.
Much better for the US to use everybody else's oil first until that runs out and then use their own.
We should have done the same in the UK but now we are running downhill in the North Sea.

Actually from what I understand is environmentalists wouldn't allow us to drill for oil in a part of alaska due to it's a wildlife reserve, but I guess the US has finally gotten the clearance to drill there.

I am guessing that since people aren't purphasing it as often they might be losing money so lowered it to get people to start buying it again. I figure if we had another gas strike like we did a few years ago when the whole United states stopped buying gas for a day or so and the gas prices lowered dramatically..We'd love to have those prices we were fighting to get lowered right about now.

I think it will probably creep back up as we get closer to Labor Day, then maybe level off for awhile.
I won't say what I paid yesterday (most places around here never hit the $4 mark), but as someone who puts nearly 1000 miles a week in driving (mostly commute/highway miles), the temporary lowering of the gas prices has been somewhat of a relief.

I really hope things are getting better. The last few months have been so hard. I know everyone has been feeling it.
