Last year I went camping with the kids for the first time and they finally saw my lack of abilities when it came to making a fire. I was down to burning rolls of toilet paper just to get it going. So this year (Leaving on Sunday YAAAAA)I want to be prepared and look skilled to the kids. It has been pretty damp here so the wood will be damp.
Any tips or are you like me and lack camper skills?

I have never had to make a camp fire before. Only went camping once, but would love to go more often. I can make a fire in a fireplace so I don't think a campfire is much different. As long as I have matches and some good kindling I think I could get it going. Pinecones work well along with dried grass, small twigs, etc....and of course, paper if you have it. A little charcoal lighter fluid on the kindling wouldn't hurt either as long as you don't get too close to it.
