Why is it wrong to help other living things?

We have these strays outside our house that hang around. There are two grown cats and 6 kittens. Well I noticed 3 days one of the kittens was sick and only getting worse. So I begged hubby and he agreed we could take it to the vet, if it can be cured to do so and we will keep him as a pet in our home. So that's what we did.
My friend upon hearing the news informs me I am the biggest sucker she has ever met. As tight as money is, I can't help but to pick up a stray.
Well if that makes me a sucker, I'm proud to wear that title. I can't let something suffer and know about it. I have never been one that can and yes I would give my last dollar to help it, human or animal.
Feel free to answer any......
So was I wrong?
What would you have done in this case?
Have you ever done something like this for an animal or person?
Have you ever regretted not helping or for helping?
Thanks in advance, I read and rate all replies. :o)

As i see there's nothing wrong with what you did, especially with such a motive, compassion. The only thing that would make it wrong if you would put the cat at the center of your life as if it is a god.

Oh maybe I should remove him off that alter? LOL, just kidding, had to be a bit silly. No I wouldn't do that for sure.
Thanks for sharing your opinion, I like to think there is nothing wrong with this. I can't understand why some would think so.

I think you are right about what you did. It shows compassion and love. I have always tried to help out little living creatures like that myself.
As a matter of fact, just this morning a knock came at my door and it was my neighbor, asking if I wanted a free dog.
Another person had given it to him the night before but it just didn't work out. The dog and my children already know each other as well as my other two dogs, so the kids are really happy now.
I am waiting for my oldest to come home from work to see his surprise. ( The dog will officially belong to him ) He's wanted this dog for a long time, and now he will finally be his !
I will proudly wear the 'sucker' title right along with you !
You did a very sweet thing, there's not many in the world like you, so don't change, we need more good people.
Have a great day, and good luck with your new 'babies'

Aw cute!
That's how we got our beagle, my brother had her for a week, but he just couldn't keep her in his yard and with his work he didn't have much time for her. So knowing I had two little girls, he called us up.
Congrats on your new addition and thanks for sharing! :o)

You are definitely not wrong for doing what you did. These animals came to you for a reason. This little creature needed your help and you helped it. That does not make you a sucker. I just have a question, what are you doing with the rest of the kittens? If they're just going to be homeless and end up going feral, it's probably better for them if you take them to the ASPCA so at least they have a chance at being rehomed.
That little kitten you took in is very lucky that you were the one living in your house and not your friend!
Your other option would have been to just take the kitten to the vet. Vets are obligated to look after the animal until they can put it into care, whether that be a carer or animal welfare.

I have nothing but admiration and respect for what you and your husband have done! You have both done a very nice deed by giving a helpless kitten who had no idea or understanding of what was happening to it a chance to live a wonderful life. And every animal and human has the right to have that wonderful quality of life. Your friend was being a bit silly when they said that. Every living creature big or small, intelligent or not, have that right to as good a quality of life as possible.
I would have done exactly the same as you. Well done!

I do believe that you made the right choice. I would have done the same thing. I too would not be able to just sit around and let a cat suffer and be sick outside. My family makes fun of me so much, because I can't bare to have an animal just out there on the streets. I say laugh if you will, but I don't mind caring for something or someone that needs my help.
