A near dead experience!

Just over a week ago I had a near dead experience. Not near death with the ethereal music or "The Light". I just almost ended up dead. I wasn't even supposed to be here for it to happen. I was scheduled and was planning to instead be in Las Vegas meeting with a customer of mine. However the customer apparently had other plans that he did not inform me of. So here I was on a nice bright Thursday afternoon waiting for a friend to stop by and visit and I was also going out to start my little BMW, like I have every week for the last 10 months since I got the car.
As I was going out to start my car my friend Uri was coming in the gate. I told her to hold on a minute while I ran and started my car. Now normally I would sit in it and clean up the dust and mess from it sitting in my yard. I would sit there and fantasize about how cool driving again was going to be, since it has been a while since I had my own car. Rev the motor you know the usual. Because my friend had not been over to my house in the year that I have lived here, I left the car running to charge the battery and lube the seals and went inside to play hostess and socialize with my buddy.
It is a good thing that I did, less than two minutes later the car exploded. The steering column ended up melted to the driver's seat where I would have been and had just been sitting. The windshield blew inward, into the car so I would have been severely cut by the glass previous to the explosions force. The explosion was so hot it lit my mesquite trees around my house. The fire department luckily is less than two blocks away so they were there less than 5 minutes after we called them. My bf's second car, the BMW convetable he was planning to restore in the fall caught too. I tried fighting the blaze to keep his from burning too but the damage was too extensive. They were both a total loss. However but for the grace of God and the timely arrival of a friend I would have been in the car, like I have been every week for 10 mos.
My friends say that after that I should have gone either to the casino or to church. (whichever one I do more praying in I guess) However we were broke all weekend and I was understandably a bit shell shocked.

Thank God you are okay. There was certainly a higher power that was with you on that day. That's what is meant by a second can change your life. It is so fortunate that a divine intervention put everything in place so that you were not harmed.
Was it determined what caused the explosion?

Fumes building up in the maniforld or a gas leak under the hood. Yes God was with me and had his hand over me, it didn't even really hit me that I could have been killed until my bf came home and was looking at it with this look on his face. I thought that he would be mad that his convertable was damaged and thus would no longer be worth dropping a new motor in and driving it. He was just glad I was ok. He could have cared less about his car.

That is amazing, a friend also had a close shave some time back when driving past a pedestrian bridge seconds before a truck hit into the support beam, resulting in concrete panels falling off and crashing on top of a few cars fortunately no one was seriously hurt.
This is odd though because cars shouldn't explode like this unless something sets them off, but who knows sometimes things happen because they have to.
All the best.

It is lucky in one regard, I was about to start pouring money and time into fixing it up so that I could drive it. The manifold was not completely bolted properly to the motor and it was holding gasoline fumes as near as we can tell. The explosion never once touched the gas tank. Though that would not have caused much of a boom. I had been starting it every week for 10 months with the same $5 worth of gas in it from when we drove it home.

Congratulations and God bless you on your second life. You should thank God for that ...and your friend for coming over. You must have an angel constantly protecting you from harm. My friend had a similar experience too. Had it not been for the TV that he was carrying on his lap, he would have smashed his face onto the next seat in that bus accident. The TV was way out of his plan but he did bring it anyway it it saved his life by acting as an airbag durng the accident. The accident only brought him one small bruise while other passengers had severe injuries.

Thank you. I am not sure that congratulations are in order since it probably had more to do with plain old dumb luck. It smacks of fate too though because if my bf had been home not only would I have been init revving the motor but my bf would probably have had his head under the hood because I was planning to ask him to take another look at it when he got home that day. Had I waited another hour or two he would have been home and we both would now be gone.
