the hard work in the past years had paid off for rafa and moving up to no. 1 is just a matter of time now. after reaching the semi-finals in cincinatti but beating nicolas lapentti, nasal is sure enough to take over the top spot from king roger. the reign of 235 consecutive weeks on the top spot will soon put to and end when the new rankings will come out later next week. even if nadal fails to win in cincinatti, he already had enough points in this tournament including those points from the past 52 weeks that he earned.

if its all about records than it seems very hard to break federe's records, no two players in one era have betan each other, there is one clear cut champ in an era and we should accept that federe is far ahead than anyone else.

At this stage, I truly agree with your thoughts and the way Nadal is playing it out. But on the other hand, he is trying to learn the way Federer works it on the top and glamor. Hopefully Nadal will add up some more silver ware next season but I have to admit that his pace is very slow comparing to Roger.
