Roleplaying Styles

I have been roleplaying for a few decades now and have seen a lot of styles out there depending on what media is being used. The most common form of roleplaying I do is by computer. First I started out in AOL's Virtual Places where many people formed medieval fantasy realms with castles and such. That was the first time I ever heard of roleplaying. It was so much fun! I learned about webpaging and created my own kingdom which still exists to this very day. http://www.dragonling.com/realm/road.htm Then I learned about chatrooms and how to roleplay there. Now we have fantastic games with amazing speciall effects, graphics and sounds like Everquest. What are some of your favorite styles of roleplaying? What games do you roleplay in? Do you ever use other media forms to RP with? Forums, messageboards, chatrooms perhaps?

I text roleplay on journaling sites like LiveJournal or InsaneJournal; they work pretty much the same as message board roleplays, except most of the games/communities also use AIM chatting in character, as well as "scening" via AIM, if not through comments on the community. If scening is done through AIM, then generally an AIM log is collected, edited, and then posted to the community as a complete scene. I really enjoy it. It helps me get my fill of my need to write.

Any kind of roleplaying helps me in the same way. Many of the stories I have on my blog: http://dragonlingtales.blogspot.com/ were all created straight out of my Everquest 2 roleplaying. Everquest has a logging tool also and so once the RP is over, I clean up the log and flesh it out into a story. AIM sounds like an interesting way to RP also. I sometimes do that too. Thanks for the response, Shira.
