The effects of second hand TV

There is a disturbing trend that has been growing for a few years now. That is, to find TVs in public places. It seems that the channels usually tuned to are ones with a very high number of commercials. There has been a great deal of research done on the effects of TV on children, and other people. To sum up, the effects aren't good. If people want to watch TV, fine, I do it in the privacy of my home regularly in fact. I choose to.
But lately I've encountered TVs in more public places. The doctor's office, the dentist, the bus station, to name a few. There was even a proposal by the Canadian government recently to put small TVs at the gas pumps of the government owned Petro Canada gas stations. Those TVs would show ads as a source of revenue. Some of the ads would be government ads of course.
Shouldn't I have the right to be protected from the effects of second hand TV? If I'm waiting at a doctors office and that TV is on, why should I have to bear it? I don't have the option of leaving the office, nor can I turn it off since others are watching.

I agree....since I hardly watch TV. I think it's over rated and you are right...the commercials are getting to be too much. I think they truly are struggling to find things that are entertaining......and it should be left to the individual if they want to watch it.....like at home! Some of the gas pumps around here have went to having small tv's installed! That's just crazy!
