Should fireworks be banned?

Way back when I was a child there were campaigns to have fireworks banned, but I thought that this was a selfish attitude from adults. Now, as an adult, I consider fireworks to be a menace. This is particularly so since fireworks have become more powerful each year.
Do you think that banning fireworks would be a good idea, or would a ban even work in practice?

I wouldn't like a total ban because I like going to organised displays, but if there was a way to stop selling to fireworks for people who aren't having an organised display then that would be a good idea, but still if people really want something they'll find a way to get it whether it's banned or not and banning things may even make it worse because people will want to be "clever" and show off to people that they got them anyway.

They are banned in Iceland except on New Years Eve, New Years Day and January 6th but people don't listen and you can hear them all year around. I don't think banning them would be very effective but if the sale of them was limited to certain dates, it might help.

No not at all. It is dangerous I agree. We have many dangerous operations. In that sense all dangerous operations are to banned. If fire works is to be banned the nuclear power plants are also to be banned. Is it not dangerous.Fire works are very attractive and I like to watch them. They are the product of creative mind. There is a lot of engineering and artistic skills. It is a beatiful art. Why should we bann such a nice enjoyable art of engineering.

A good point. I must admit that I had overlooked the many uses of fireworks.
I disagree with fireworks being set off at all hours for weeks on end, but I would not wish to interfere with such celebrations as Chinese New Year etcetera.

I think fireworks should be held in certain place and only on a certain night as ive been too many kids seeting fireworks off in the street and they end up in my back garden. Th noise scares my cats and send my dog army! I enjoy watching a good display with my kids but theres a time and place! xx

No way, I am an adult (so they say. heh) and I do not find them a menace. I think that they are great fun and very nice to watch.
I hate the idea of banning things. People keep getting things decided for them by governments or whatnot.... they will soon no longer know how to decide for themselves.
What ever happened to personal choice and responsibility?
If it doesn't hurt anyone then there is no problem.... sure they can be annoying but everything can be annoying.

No I don't think they should be banned. They are dangerous and people should take precaution on using them. I know that certain fireworks cannot be brought over the border to BC.
