I am continuing my day of history posts each day, perhaps you might find some of them interesting. So throughout the years on August 8th, these events have happened: 1588- English forces attacked the Spanish Armada, permanently crippling Spain's "invincible" fleet. 1815- Napoleon Bonaparte went to St. Helena to live the rest of his days in exile 1899- The refrigerator was patented by A.T. Marshall 1945- President Harry S. Truman signed the United Nations Charter, Also in 1945 The Soviet Union declared war against Japan in WWII 1968- Richard M. Nixon was nominated for president 1969- Sharon Tate, wife of director Roman Polanski, and four others were murdered by members of Charles Manson's "family" 1974- President Richard Nixon announced he would resign after the uncovering of the Watergate Scandal 1978- The United States launched Pioneer Venus II, which carried scientific probes to study the atmosphere of Venus 1988- U.N. Secretary-General Javier Perez de Cuellar announced a cease-fire between Iran and Iraq I hope you enjoyed these historical facts! I'll post more tomorrow. Thanks for checking them out.

i am a history fanatic so i really enjoyed reading your post. for tomorrow you have to post that the US dropped the bomb on nagasaki. the bomb was called 'fat man' (the one dropped on hiroshima was called little boy). here is the link from wikipedia for nagasaki, aug 9, 1945http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Atomic_bombings_of_Hiroshima_and_Nagasaki a very sad time in world history!

Hey, thanks for viewing! I will be sure to included that tomorrow, on August 6th I believe it was, I included the bomb, "little boy." That was indeed a very sad time in history, and still is very sad. Radiation is still higher there, and people are still finding more cancer problems than the usual numbers. Even birth defects are higher still, it's so sad!

Hmm sounds like you have done your history homework. You get a gold star. I enjoy history and am going to do a shift or two as a docent in our local history museum. I think this will be apretty fun little job to while away the time. It is interesting to find out what has happened on various dates in history.
