Do you remember being fearless as a child?

I recently went ice skating with one of my friends. I used to skate 5-6 times a week when i was younger, for about ten years and would think nothing of launching into a salchow or lutz but i find that now i am too afraid of falling or drawing attention to myself the process kind of goes: i could jump now but if i fall over 1. i will look incredibly stupid 2. everybody will look at me and it will forever be one of those moments that make me got red if i even think about it and 3. it will probably really really hurt!!! As a child you just don't think about these things, to a point children are fearless because they tend not to think about the consequences of what they do as much as adults! What are the things that you did as a child but wouldn't dream of trying now?

Definitely! And to be honest I am absolutely AMAZED that I made it to adulthood! I have driven past bridges I used to jump off into the water as a child and am absolutely horrified at how high it is! Yet when I was younger I just ran and jumped! I look at places where I used to swim and cannot believe that I even CONSIDERED going anywhere near water that dirty! But as a child in I wnet and loved it! No we didn't think of the consequences and funnily enough most of us made it out alive! lol. I wish I still had even a little of this carefree attitude today!

I kind of wish i didn't worry about things like that so much either but i guess it's all part and parcel of getting older! Swimming in dirty water isn't that bad, apparently it's good to let kids play in the mud every once in a while! lol well i'm glad you did make it into adulthood! xxx

I wouldnt say I was fearless because I was very shy and scared of things when I was little. I always had trouble catching a ball, it took me years to learn to ride a bike and I still cant swim. I remember in gymnastics i used to be scared of jumping off the apparatus but I got used to it. I would preactice at home by jumping off chairs but now Im terrified of heights and wont even stand on them. Ive workd out that that is because Im taller now and so am higher up lol. Ive never been ice skaing but I can see what you mean. I think when you are younger you think maybe people will let you off for falling etc cos your a kid but when you're older you know people will probably laugh and this puts you off.

hehe i was no good at gymnastics either! my dad broke his arm jumping off chairs when he was little so that can be pretty risky in itself! lol never thought of that before, i guess falling is worse now because we're taller than when we were children! hehe The fear of being laughed at doesn't worry me as much as the fear of how much it would hurt - am a wimp!hehe xxx

There are a lot of things I have done fearlessly as a kid. Other than various games, climbing trees, jumping around...., some very stupid ones too, which I would not like any other kid to try. The older I got, the more I started thinking about the consequences ans sure would not do them now.

Roller skating was my life as a kid through high school. I did jumps, turns, skated fast, did the limbo and could go very low. I might try to skate, but I would not try the turns or jumps and I sure would not try the limbo! OMG! Too heavy and too slow now. If I tried to flatten myself now while moving fast on skates like I used to . . . I don't think I would ever get up again! I also played softball until in my thirties and though I long to play now (53), I don't think I would. Too afraid of asthma, heart attack and moving too slow and being embarrassed.

I know the feeling of being afraid of embarrassing myself, it's why i don't dare do half the things i used to when i was younger! xxx
