Radio station contests?

Do your radio stations do contests? Have you ever won anything from a radio station contest? Today I was adding some music to my MP3 player, and I was going to show my husband how I can pick up radio stations with it as well. So I turned it to the radio station, and just at that moment they said the 10th caller would win concert tickets. So my husband picked up the phone and dialed, and after 1 or 2 tries he hands it to me and says it's ringing. I thought nothing of it, figured nobody would answer, or I'd be caller 9 or something. Well the guy picks up and says I'm the right caller! I won tickets to see Counting Crows and Maroon 5 this Tuesday!! I can't believe it! Now we're trying to find a sitter so we can go, LOL.

Our radio stations here do have contests but I don't participate in them simply because I don't want to spend anything just to join the contests. But the prizes are really sweet so it takes a lot of effort to stop myself from joining. Some contests needs us to spend our mobile phone load to be able to join.

Unfortunatly the concert is 3 hours away, but we did get his parents to agree to watching the kids. They weren't really happy knowing what time we'd be home, which will probably be around midnight, 1 am... but oh well, lol.

Ha! His mom will be the one going home early. She told us we may have to drive his father home when we get back, lol.

Might be even later then that. With high traffic when the concert is over! But, hey you don't do this that often. Just tell his mom to bring her jammies and crash for the night! LOL

I tried calling in to a radio station once for a contest, but the phone was busy every time I dialed. I gave up a few minutes later. How cool that you won the tickets. I hope you can find a sitter on such short notice.

That's usually how it works for me to, we just got lucky. I've won 4 radio contests in my life, the first in 95, then in 98, then in 2003, and now this one.

My first radio contest win was for guessing the name of the band that was playing. I heard the first note, called in and said, "Paul Revere and the Raiders". The thing is, I never heard the song before but knew the band well enough to know it was them!!! I got a 45rpm record as a prize for that one and I have never even heard of whoever it was on the record. Ha!! The second radio contest I won was when this question was asked: Who were the members of the Monkees? Davy Jones, Mickey Dolenz, Peter Tork, and Michael Nesmith. You are a winner!!! Woohoo!! My prize for that one was a coupon for some kind of burger at the local Hardee's. I forgot to pick up the coupon. Ha!!

I've never won anything from the radio stations. But my daughter did a few years ago. She won some money, but the neighbor had called and told her to call in since he had already won and couldn't do it again. So she felt compelled to give him half of what she had won - which I told her was crazy! But congratulations to you! That is exciting. Hope you don't have a problem finding a babysitter and you and your husband can have a nice night out.

Yeah, that was crazy, she should have kept the money. I think the neighbor is even more nuts for taking it! Geez. We got our in laws to babysit and I'm really excited. It's been about 7 years since I've been to a concert, and 10 years for hubby.

That is cool. I always tell my wife that she should call in to the country station she listens to but she never does. That is great that you got the tickets. Have fun.

Congrats! enjoy the show, hope you find a sitter. The last time I won, the question was what poem by this person became a famous song, Katherine Lee Bates. I pegged it as America the beautiful. You see, this song was tailored after my part of the world. I won movie tickets. My sister won George Lopez tickets earlier this year. That was fun and weird at the same time.

I've never won a contest where you had to answer a question... at least I don't think so. Usually it's just be the correct caller to win, that easy. This will be my 4th time winning a contest. I've won tickets to the Beach Boys back in 95, tickets to a Hip Hop summer jam which featured Shaggy, tickets to a country show case featuring Buddy Jewel (he won the first season of Nashville Star and we were actually into it at the time), and now I've won these tickets to Counting Crows and Maroon 5.

I have won three in my life. They were fun to win. I was shocked though. That's for sure.

LOL congrats, that is really nice you deserved to win those tickets and I hope you get to go and have a great time. Our radio stations have competitions but I never enter them. Maybe I should have a go!!

I rarely enter them myself, and usually there is a driving force, like someone telling me of the contest so I can listen for it, or like yesterday when my husband was the one who called the number. I never expected to get through. After we won the tickets we realized the concert is 3 hours away, and the ONLY sitter we have are his parents. He called and asked and I could hear his mother's shock when he told her we won't be home until after midnight! But it's so rare we ask them to babysit, she still didn't turn us down. So we're all set on the sitter front. I'm getting very excited!!

I guess that as it's ages since you wrote this discussion that you've already been to the concert? Congratulations on your win! I don't think I've ever won anything in a radio station competition. That's probably because I never ring up though!!

You're like my father. Hehe. He immediately turns off the radio when it's already spitting out commercials from radio stations. But truth be known, without these commercials, how will the radio stations survive? They need money for maintenance and to pay their staffs you know. :)
