The aim is not only so save on my electricity bill but also to decrease ultimately fuel consumption. Can you all please share your tips on how to conserve electricity?
Obviously
- switch off all appliances when they are not in use
- when going on vacation etc switch off your refrigerator if possible
- Do not leave electronic items on standby overnight; switch them off
- switch off your computer monitor when not i use
Do share a lot more please!

My hubby has changed all the light bulbs to those new min-fluorescent bulbs in all of our lamps. While it does save money, I worry about those bulbs. Sure, they're supposed to last for 5 year (we'll see), but with cats around, we already had one lamp knocked down and the bulb broken. They have to be disposed of differently, since they contain mercury. I wonder if it's safe to have that much mercury in the house now...

Using your lights as little as possible is a good idea. Whenever you go to leave a room and the light is on, just turn it off. It seems like a small task but it really will help add up. Also using energy saving light bulbs and appliances is also great if you can afford to make the switch from regular appliances to energy star appliances. You can even find computers now that are energy star systems. Drying your clothes on a clothes line instead of using a dryer also really helps cut energy use.
