Blame everything on the genes!

Genes - Can you blame your genes for everything?

I've noticed over the last couple of years that everything boils down to ones genes! I've read articles where being a couch potato, sleeping late at night, gettung hooked to alcohol gets blamed on ones genes. It seems quite an overkill!! Soon violence, abuse, crimes will be defended saying "Its in my genes - I can't help it!!"I think a lot of behaviour is how you are trained and how you react to situations. Its not just in your genes! What do you think about this trend?

I agree with the above poster. So many people are blaming their problems and issues on someone else. Which I think is a cope out for alot of people. I think people should start taking responsiblity for their faults and actions.

I think its largely an excuse for bad behaviour, bad parenting, lack of self control etc. Perhaps there are some genetic links with particular personality traits or disorders but it becomes almost a badge of honour for people to be 'labelled' as allegedly suffering from a condition which appears to be a 'reason' (aka excuse) for behaving in an anti-social way. Before I get a load of grief from people who suffer from genuine disorders, please note that I am acknowledging their existence and have sincere sympathy for those who deal with genuine cases.

Yes - there are definite genetic problems like Autism and some types of hyperactivity. But a large amount of violence and crime are not related to such genuine genetic problems.

Sorry, I wasn't intending to imply that they were. I just think that sometimes parents and others are a bit too eager to label children as having behavioural problems ?? (and, of course, there are cases which go undiagnosed)

Its a cop out. Its people finding a new way to blame their problems on something or someone else. It's BS.
