That's how long my parents have been married, today is their anniversary. That's the longest marriage that I know of within my family...obviously none of my siblings and I qualify for that yet LOL and both sets of grandparents divorced...one after 13 years and the other after 25-30ish. I probably have and uncle or aunt that's been married longer but I'm just not close with any of my family to know for sure.
How long is the longest marriage you know about? Yours or a family member's. was it a happy, you knew it'd be for forever marriage? Or have you ever wondered how they stayed and why? I'd say my parents' marriage is a mix of the two. No one could ever imagine them splitting up but there were plenty of times no one understood why they didn't.

My grandparents were married 42 years before my grandfather passed away. If he hadn't passed away they would still be married today so they would be married around 56 years. My parents have been married for 29 years and they are still going great. I think they will make it till the end. I've been married 7 year so far. My marriage is on shaky ground though, but I think we're going to make it.

Hi foxyfire,
wow! Congratulations for your parents..I know everyone is wishing for a lifetime relationship with their partner!
Anyway, in my Mother's side, they are all 11 siblings and only one of them was separated with the wife and the rest are all living with their partners happily including my Mother! In my Dad's side they are 4 now and all of them are with their first wife/husband and all happy including my Dad!

Congratulations on your parents for being married for so long. I think my parents have been married for 39 years going on 40. They haven't been all fine and dandy though but they have hung in there and are still living together.

My marriage has lasted so far for 40 years.. We dated for 3 years before we married, so we have been together for 43 years.. When it lasts that long, it can't always be peaches and cream.. There have been a few times that I wondered why he didn't kill me or I didn't kill him.. It isn't easy being married to the same person for that many years, but I can't picture life without him.. He always joked, (I guess it was a joke), that if he had of "killed me on our wedding night, he would be out of jail by now".. But instead he got a life sentence without parole.. You have to be forgiving, flexible, have a great sense of humor and never expect perfection to stay married for a very long time..

22/07/2010 - so I am a couple of years late on this post. In US money 07/22/10. I am married 38 years today - remembered yesterday, forgot today - so didn't get it in first this morning. Wife working (next door - in our house not next door!) so seeking solace on the net. A familiar theme in the posts above is flexibility and (unstated) tolerance. Love changes but the trick is to see it re-emerge in your partner in a new way (or pretend it has - almost as good maybe!). To all subsequent readers who get to 38 years of partnership - I hope you are as pleased as I have been.

My parents have been married at least 31 years, maybe 32. The longest marriage I am aware of is my grandparents on my dads side they got married when my grandfather was 20 and he passed away at 84. So that is a long time.

My mother and father inlaw are married 51 years. They are both in their late 70s. My parents will be married 40 years next month. Sometimes I wonder how they have stayed together for so long-they don't always have the best relationship. My father can be impossible to deal with sometimes and my mother is a doormat.

Happy wedding anniversary to your parents!! Unfortunately, my parents divorced after 21 yrs of marriage and 3 kids. My parents in law, on the other hand, will celebrate their 48th wedding anniversary this year! They sometimes fight like cats and dogs, but deep down, could not live without each other!

I know of one couple who live a couple of doors up from me they have been married just over fifty years.
You often see them walking down the road holding hands and they always look so happy. They just seem made for each other.
My parents celebrate thier 40th Wedding Anniversary at the end of this month at times i wonder why they have lasted this long.
