Made my first batch of homemade ice cream yesterday

We had some leftover coffee, and coffee ice cream is one of my girl's favorites so we made ice cream for the first time yesterday. It was a little touch and go at first because the ice cream maker didn't want to cooperate. I got it from Freecycle last summer but hadn't tried it yet. It looked like it had never been used. The girls really enjoyed it. Now to make my favorite Peanut Butter! Do you make your own ice cream? Do you have a favorite recipe to share? I like trying tried and true recipes, so the more the merrier!

I've only made homemade ice cream a couple of times. I'e just used like ice cream mixes from Walmart. I'm going to be ordering an ice cream ball from Amazon.com. You can just roll it around and it will make ice cream. Then I can get rid of this big contraption I bought a few years ago. Anyone want to buy an ice cream maker??

Luckily my ice cream maker does not take up a lot of room. A friend of mine has the ball, they really do work. She takes it camping with her all the time. I bet if you put it on craigslist you might get something for it. Thanks for the response.

Hello kimbers867. The coffee ice cream sounds to-die-for. It's always fun to make. Yes, we do occasionally make homemade ice cream. I have a Cuisinart Ice Cream Maker. It makes just 1 1/2 quarts at a time. It spins by itself. It's smaller and sits on the countertop while it's "working." I usually just make vanilla ice cream then we mix in whatever we want: nuts, chocolate chips, etc. Here's the recipe I use for Homemade Vanilla Ice Cream: Stir together 3/4 cup sugar and 1 cup whole milk til sugar dissolves. Then, stir in 2 cups of heavy cream and 1 or 2 tsp. of vanilla extract. Then, I turn on the freezer "contraption", the bowl starts spinning and I slowly pour in the mixture. Let it mix/freeze for 30 minutes. If you want, you can add in a cup or 2 of your favorite mix-ins: crushed cookies, pecans, mints, etc. during the last 5 minutes of the freezing.

I think we have the same ice cream maker! LOL Thanks for the recipe. I need to figure out how to add peanut butter so it doesn't just glop together. I also have some Chocolate Peanut Butter bunnies the girls didn't eat from their basket that I think I will add one time. Thanks for the tips! Stay safe the next 24 hours!

Wow, coffee ice cream made at home! That sounds like a really nice treat! So far, the deserts I make at home are mainly sweet soups and jello. I have yet to try my hand at making ice cream. It is difficult to make? Are we able to control the amount of sugar in the ice cream to make it a healthier version?

congrats! keep it up! it is better if you place real ingredients than those syrup flavored ones because it is more healthier. i mean if you like mango flavored ice cream, you put real fresh mangoes on it. well, i have on recipe for you. all you need is cookies, all purpose cream and condensed milk. first you crush the cookies. then mix the all purpose cream and condensed milk. and then place the crushed cookies to the mixed all purpose cream and condensed milk. then after mixing it all. place it in a container and place it on the freezer. then wait until it is frozen. the viola! you have a homemade healthy cookies and cream. ^_^ i hope you'll like it.
