Are You Prepared?

If you were in a car accident tomorrow, are you prepared? Do you even know what questions to ask and what information to get?
I work for a taxi company as a risk manager handling the accidents our drivers have and I deal with insurance companies and lawyers and the police on a regular basis. Please believe me when I say that even many professional drivers aren't prepared when they have an accident so you tell me, are you prepared? And, if you think you are, what have you done to prepare?

I don't think anyone is prepared to have an accident. That's what accidents are all about. They are accidents. They are not intentional. How well can a person really be prepared? The only thing if you are in it with someone else get their information, licence plate, name, phone number, insurance etc. Other than that you really can't do too much. This also depends on the severity of the accident as well. Are you alert enough to even do this? Are you even alive? Every accident is different and never the same. What if the person drives off? So many questions to ask here. I don't think the term "Professional Driver" is the right term to be using. It is "Experienced Driver". No one is a professional driver as you are learning something new everyday and if they are professional drivers they wouldn't be getting into accidents.

Actually, you are very wrong! There are a lot of things you can do to be prepared for a car accident. That's why I asked the question. And, like it or not, when someone drives for a living, they are called a professional driver. And, you are the exact type of person I'm looking to hear from because an insurance company will eat you alive.
I'm in the process of writing a series of articles to help people who haven't got a clue about what to really do in an accident and how you can get ripped off.
Some of what you say about getting the information is right. The problem is that when you are in an accident, you aren't thinking clearly and often forget to get information that can make the difference in who is found to be at fault for the accident and who pays for it. If you don't think that's important, believe me when I tell you that you can lose everything because of a simple accident.

That is what they call people who drive for a living. Professional. But in all honestly I was a semi truck driver and they consider me to be a professional. But in reality I am learning new things everyday and no one an actually be a professional as there is always someone better than you. A buddy that was trucking for over 40+ gets offended by the word PROFESSIONAL as he explained it all to me and he states I am not PROFESSIONAL I am EXPERIENCED. You will always find someone that cannot drive for the lick of them and you wonder where they got their licence. I have seen too many truck drivers that do not know nothing about driving that truck for the life of them. Do I consider them a professional driver HELL NO! I have seen it to often and that gives the rest of the truck drivers a bad name for what others have done in the past. Truckers are always the ones at fault. No question about it. The car trumpts the semi the car trumpts the motorcyle and the pedestrians walking and riding peddle bikes trump everything. I have seen quite a few semi related accidents where they all turned out to be the semi truck drivers fault. Which is complete BS if you ask me. Making a right hand turn you have to make a WIDE right hand turn. Most times always using 2 lanes to do this. When some dumb @$$ drives their car into your front dullies just behind them that is your fault. Complete BS as the dumb @$$ needs to be paying attention to what EVERYONE is doing. Oh I was going to sneak by. Come on are you that dumb.
I am never going to consider myself a professional driver because of driving a semi truck. No way no how. I will always find someone better than me and to have that name of professional driver is just absurd. They need to change it to EXPERIENCED driver.

You are missing the whole point of what I'm talking about. I'm not interested in trucking stories. I'm trying to help people including you if you'd stop being so arrogant and read what I'm talking about! If you can't get on the actual subject, please stop posting so others who really want help can get some.
