i am the eldest daughter in the family (all of us are girls), and i have read this article about studies weighing in on the age-old controversy over whether firstborns are more intelligent than those who follow. of course, i would be the first one to dismiss the thought (being humble and all, hehe :p). but if such studies exists, there must be some degree of truth about it, right? :p it has been a subject of studies for decades about the order of birth having significant effects on intelligence. it goes back as far as alfred adler arguing that firstborns have an edge (i think i'm starting to like how this freudian-era psychologist..hmm..hehe), and anecdata suggesting that firstborns were more likely to win Nobel prizes (ahem.:p) what do you think? do you agree with this? whether you answer a yes or a no, why so? :)

Well, I would say its true in my family. My eldest sister is the only one as of now who has completed college and is now in a stable carer. Although she was also the only of of us to go to a private school while me and my other sister had to attend public schools. I'm the youngest and I do think my sisters are smarter and better at retaining educational knowledge more then I am. I actually had a lot of problems with learning. We made a little joke when we were little. my 2 older sisters both fell and hit their head when they were small. my eldest sister fell on a hard floor from a shopping cart, the middle one fell from the crib onto a carpeted floor, and i didn't fall but I did smack my head on the car seat repeatedly. So I would say, on average it would be true. But there should be cases where its not. But I'm not upset because I do things better then my sisters, I may not have brain smarts but I was the most creative out of all of them.

it just proves that one person cannot have it all. God is really fair, don't you think?:)

very interesting and cute question. i remember i was told by a medical teacher that normally the youger sister/ brother tended to be smarter and more good-looking. i prove this in many people including my father.

Well, I'm no authority on the matter and I haven't really researched the subject....I find that I am more intelligent than my sister is (I'm the older one and there are just the two of us) but she is more street smart than I am. My husband is the oldest of 3 siblings and he is the most intelligent....can't say about the smart aspect....but yes, he's the kind that could win the Nobel Prize. My dad has 8 siblings and though the oldest (my uncle) was good in studies, he isn't the smartest one and made a mess of his life. And the intelligence didn't really go down as they came down the sibling ladder. My dad (who is the 3rd child of his parents) was the most successful of all 9....and the youngest (my aunt) was the most intelligent. I have two kids. My older one is very intelligent. Though my younger one is very different from my older one, I feel that he's intelligent in a different way. Maybe our kids got an advantage being kids of firstborns!

Partly yes i agree........my brother-the eldest in the family passed the board exam right after finishing his college.Very good in math, hands down. In my case, with my children..........yes i agree that she happens to be much smarter compared to the next sibling who is a boy-during preschool. The reason is since she was the first born i have more time...more than enough time to teach her. She's a topper since up to her highschool years. While with the second....i gave birth with the third when he started going to school so i don't have much time teaching him during his early years----maybe that's the reason.
