WE feed squirrels in our front yard, my son enjoys watching them eat, so we go out and spend $10.00 a month on food for them. We had one making a nest the other day, it was awesome to watch. We were outside sitting in our garage just a little bit ago and a jerk came down the road and hit the squirrel right in front of my son. We went out to the road to try and move it because she was twitching and another jerk came by and ran her over again. Needless to say she is dead now, and my son is having a fit. We just buried her in the front yard under her favorite tree. People can be so cruel to hit animals (oh and they could have avoided her but didn't, so they did it on purpose (young punks)). Not only that but they looked over and saw my son and did it right in front of him......God it erks me our rude people are.. Well we believe she WAS pregnant but I guess we will never know...Thanks for letting me share my story, I need to go calm my son down now....

I'm so sorry! That's just crazy. Sometimes you need to wonder what's wrong with people (I seriously think some folks must broken inside) or what happened in their day to make the due such a cruel thing in front of a little kid (no matter what it was it's unexcused, especially in front of your son).

Oh dear thats really cruel. I cannot immagine how cruel, people have become. Oh I really feel bad for your son. He must be really upset. Try consoling him by saying that the squirrel has gone to a better place to live. It has gone to live with God. Just try to console him saying that God loved the squirrel too and wanted it to stay with him. I know it must be difficult. I hope people become more sympathetic towards animals.

Dear friend, That is really a touching one for me as I had a squirrel as pet and we all loved to feed it. I became a vegetarian only to not to get these animals killed for sake of my tasty food. Just think in the place of that squirrel if a human was had this faith. Hope the person who hit that human would be in a big mess. But both have life. One is squirrel and another is human. I hope squirrels do not have the right of speech or no constitutional law is written for these poor animals as long as there is no one to raise voice or fight for them. I hope those who do not have voice their life may not have any value too.

to me animals are people and I agree they need to be treated like living creatures which they are living creatures...Some people have no conscience or morals.

I hope your son be ok and it not affect him too much i really can not believe how some people are, was it child that hit it.. if so what will they be like as adults if can be so cruel to a living creature.. just that i known some children to torture animals in past, like ferrets by swinging them around so hard by tail, it kills them :( Dont they feel anything for their actions,? really sorry your child had to witness such a cruel act.. That person needs reporting..

People can be so rude and mean. If they clearly saw your son and could have avoided hitting the squirrel, then they should have. Wouldn't they think that could traumatize the young boy. I'm sorry for your son and that he had to watch the poor little thing get hit not once, but twice.

Oh, that's just mean. I mean, it's one thing if you can't swerve to avoid it, or if you don't see it in time, but if you see it and make NO EFFORT - that's messed up. Especially if you see a little kid watching. Some people may say, "Oh, it was just a squirrel." But really, what difference does it make? I swerve or slow down to avoid them all the time. It makes me ill to run over something, even if I can't avoid it. Those people were vicious. Not cool. I hope you're able to cheer up your son. Good luck!

I even swerve for frogs and lizards, we even stop and take turtles out of the road too...WE love all animals and it kills us to see people do that stuff.. My son has finally calmed down, we distracted him with a game.... Now we yell at the other squirrel to stay in our yard....

That's a very sad story. I have never understood people that could do that on purpose. I had a friend that used to swerve towards cats that happened across the road while we were riding in his truck. Luckily we never hit any. I feel terrible when I hit a squirrel or any other animal while driving. Unfortunately there are those times where you can't do anything about it. As sad as it is I would rather hit a squirrel in the road than put me or my passenger in danger. But if I have the opportunity to avoid a squirrel or any other animal I take it. I hope your son feels better about it. That is definitely a hard thing to see as a child.

Sorry to hear about your little squirrel friend. They are cute creatures, and sometimes you just have to left nature take its course, sure some people are cruel to animals, meaning they need help themselves, but you never know if they actually saw it or not,but if they swerved just to hit it on purpose that is mean. Sorry your son is upset as well and I am sure he will eventually understand if he is young.

thanks for responding, they were speeding down the road as usual, so if a kid woulda jumped out there they prolly wouldnt have seen the kid, but they did see the squirrel cause they pointed at it then looked over at our house where my son was....Stupid people

oh my god!! cruel people!!! i have always been an animal lover, since young my mum was just like you, we'd feed the stray in the evening and always help animals in need, once a car deliberately knocked a dog and left it limping i was 7 then we rushed the dog to the vet and the dog had a broken paw, we nurtured it back to health and eventually kept it as a pet it passed away from old age 6-9 years after that. i hate it when some people are so inhumane they're just so heartless, they dont think animals have feelings they dont treat animals with respect i believe the good lord have things in store for them to pay for what they did to every innocent animal. even if its an accident they shouldnt leave the animal atleast stop to see if its ok. it just breaks my heart when people do these kind of things. your poor boy must be so hurt im feel so sorry that he had to witness that
