I'm not a junkie

I have allergies. They're severe. I take two kinds of allergy drugs everyday of my life and have since I was 18 when they finally figured out what was wrong with me. But lately, my new doctor has been giving me lots of problems about getting my allergy drugs. I don't know what kind of person she thinks I am, but it's offensive. It's not like I'm taking codine or any controlled substance. It's prednisone and antihistamines. I'm beginning to know, in a small way, what my friends with chronic pain go through just to get what they need to be comfortable and functional. What's up with this whole attitude and what would you recommend I do about it?

Sadly because we have so many prescription medication addicts in this country, it's kind of common now to suspect that a patient may be an addict. I'd personally tell your doctor straight out this is what's going on and that you find it offensive that you seem to be treated like a junkie when you have and obvious problem and need those to make it through the day comfortably. She may not like it, but it needs to be known. And if she refused to work with you much, I'd try and find another doctor. One that would be willing to help you. If she's going to act like you don't need any medication, then she doesn't deserve to be paid by you for her 'services'.
