Well, the 2000s--the first decade of the 21st century--will be a wrap in 16 months. As we approach the 2010s mark--what will you think of as you remember this decade?
Some of my memories?
Disposable "music"--if you can call it that. "Get Low", "Shawty (this) Shawty that", "Love in This Club," "In Da Club"--some of the bawdiest, trashiest "music" to come down the pike in a while. I beg the pardon of people who actually came up with meaningful music...my apologies to Coldplay, Alicia Keys, Enya--who comforted our nation at the time of Sept. 11 with "Only Time"--also Daniel Powter, James Blunt, Colbie Caillat--names of artists who will probably never chart again, at least here in the US.
Terrorism, thanks to Sept. 11.
Our nation's first serious African-American candidate, Barack Obama.
The summer of 2008--which was very cruel to the entertainment/journalism industries. Tim Russert, Tony Snow, Bernie Mac, Stephanie Tubbs-Jones, Isaac Hayes, all passing away within days to weeks of each other.
Natural disasters, such as Katrina and Rita, and FEMA waiting to do anything to help.
The HIV crisis continuing to get worse.
The economy. High gas prices. For me, turning forty, and surviving it. Marriage. Losing my teenage sweetheart.
What are some of your memories, be they personal, musical, political, or public?

This is all very memorable stuff. However, I will most likely remember the abundance of useless technology that came into our lives. Why do people need a phone that plays music and has the internet? I can understand the GPS systems on phones, but everything else is kind of moot. And texting is closing people off from having actual conversations. Yes, I think I'll remember that the most.

I usually don't text people. I once in a great while will text. I could just as well call the same person.
I think the technology has taken over folks' lives. We will text in the middle of a class, a practice that is rude to the professor and fellow students. We text in church, much to the consternation of the pastor.
But we need to remember something: It is not the technology, it's the people using it.
We have made idols of technology that, say, back circa 1975, we did very well without!

well.. for me, the decade wont make any difference, coz each and every moment matters for me, hence I cant go with any memory saying, it or that happened in that century.
The date and year is enough.
Just saying that this incidence happened in this century is not enough, you have to to be more descriptive. just like "mylot" says for its every response. lol!!
