Alright! I'm Going Back to School!

Whew! I think I have everything lined out.
Tomorrow, I am starting back to school again. I'm planning to finish up my Associate in General Studies w/emphasis in music and get a Web Design Certificate. I am really excited about this, too!
These past 2 weeks, I have been busy with getting signed up for the classes, see if I'm eligible for any grants (which I'm not), applied for a student loan (ugh!), and applied for a scholarship that will pay for my tuition (which doesn't pay until end of semester, another ugh).
Anyway, tomorrow is my first on-campus class and I can't wait. I know it will be an easy 'A' because the instructor is so laid-back. That class is Understanding Art. I think that would pretty much go along with the Web Design since that takes a certain amount of artistic flair.
My other on-campus class is Intro to Web Page Construction. I decided to take that at the campus because I'm sure I will have plenty of questions about it for the instructor.
I have two classes that are online. The first is Intro to the Internet and what better place to have that class than online.
My other class is Composition & Analysis. I will be writing a research paper for that one. I'm kind of apprehensive about it because I am one who doesn't like to write a big paper. I'm doing well just being able to write in a forum such as myLot.
By the way, I'm 55 years old (I almost put 54, then remembered I had a birthday!
). The reason I'm doing this is so that I can do the Web Design work on the side along with my current fulltime job. Also, in my retirement years, it will supplement what little income I will get at that time.
Are there any myLotters who are going back to school? What program are you in? Are you excited about going back? Do you have a specific reason for going back, i.e. change in career, promotion, planning for retirement years?

Congrats. Both my husband and I tried to get back in for summer AND fall but we are having the worst problem with our transcripts being sent it! It is very very frustrating.
he was just going back for a BS in Comp Science b/c they don't have his degree locally and I was just going back of general studies b./c I have an AS in Business Admin but that isn't what I really want to do and honestly I don't know what I want to do at all!

I can only imagine that it is very frustrating that your transcripts have not been sent. When you are ready to go back to school, you want to go now and not wait forever. Then it seems that most times there are some kind of setback. I've been having a few of them, too.
Since you are not sure what you want to do, is there something in your everyday life that you really like doing? Maybe you can build from that.

I'll go to university later. Now I have a complicated emotion.Because my best friend, philos, will go to another college to learn another major.Even we are in one university. But being sepatared makes me very sad.I wish that we can be very good friends forever, but also afriad that distance maybe a bad thing for us.When Sep. come,I'll begin my sophmore year.I should work harder to get a better result. And I also want to take part in some activities, for example,I want to join the art ensemble and continue my way on dancing and singing.Last term I get a good rank in a compitition of singing. So I think I can do better.

Hope your schooling is going well, you must have your hands full. I wish you lots of luck :)! I don't think I could ever go back to school at this point in my life.

School is going fine for me. I have dropped down to only one class this semester. I had it figured out that there was no way that I could work full time, sleep full time, and go to school full time. I'm just going to go for it one or two classes per semester.

That's awesome!
I can't wait to hear the updates
on your studies.
I'm in my mid thirties (35 as of this week)
and considering getting my associate degree
in business management.
It's not a glamorous degree.
But they pay managers $60,000 to start
in our area.
We could really use that money about now!

ok...here's my update. I bit off more than I could chew. I found out that I could not work full time, take classes fulltime, and sleep in there somewhere, too. Anyway, this semester, I'm not continuing. I will take the Composition 2 class so that I can get my Associate in General Studies Degree in the spring.

I went back to the U in my mid fifties and got my BA in English and am glad I did, but really should have got a BS in library science instead. a BA in English is not much good unless you intend to teach which I did not. but again it was an accompolishement as its harder at that age than at twenty. lol.

I have thought about getting a BS in Library Science. But kind of late for that. Or maybe not.
My sister is 53 and working on her Bachelors in Creative Writing. She would not be able to teach in public school but could in private or parochial schools.
She still has this year to finish and then all of the next school year to get through. It's been a lot of hard work and sacrifice for her.

Wow, I wish my classes were easy A's. So far, none have been. I work hard for those A's and there's not a laid back instructor on campus, I think. I even asked one about a class I need, but it is in the 100 level and I am in the 300 and 400 level (meaning jr./sr. classes as opposed to 100 level fresh.)-- and the instructor said I can take it next semester, but he is going to add to it to make it a level 400 class. Yippee skippee!
I went back because I wanted my degree from that particular college and I am planning for my retirement years. I wanted to find a career that will not be hampered by my physical limitations as I get older, and that I can do from home or Aruba or Jamaica or where ever I happen to be! (Which will be home, Aruba and Jamaica aren't likely!)

I'm pretty sure that the Understanding Art class will be easy.
I will have to work very hard at the other classes though.
At least I do have a little bit of knowledge on working my way around the internet some, so the computer classes will be fairly easy.
You'll have to help me out with my Comp. 2 class.
You have more research and writing experience than I do!
Well, at least what we are learning now will keep us occupied when we are retired.
