A child that bangs his or her head

Why do some children like to bang their head on furniture? I imagine this is painful so once they have done this once do they not learn that it is more enjoyable to play with toys? I have had to put a baby gate around my glass door because my toddler bangs him head against it. Today I had to stop him banging his head on my filing cabinet. He is only 15 months old so I can't do more than stop him when he starts banging his head.

That's dangerous for your 15-month old kid maximax. Keep him away from solid and hard surfaces, it could hurt him that much.

Yes, I am thinking of putting padding on my walls and furniture. My 15 month old son has a shunt inside his head and perhaps he has a headache when he bangs his head. When he is older I will be able to ask him.

It may be neurological, I would go to a Doctor and find out why he does this. I worked where there were adults that did that and they had to wear helmets to keep from being injured. Take care
