Don't get taken by a fake-check scam! When someone buys something from you with a check that is more than the amount, even if they give a seemingly valid excuse for writing over the amount, don't take it. It's likely a fake check. Only take checks for the EXACT amount. There is no reason for anyone to send you a check that is over the amount. If someone gives you a check and wants you to cash it and then wire the money to them or to someone else, for whatever reason, don't take it. It's likely a fake check. You might get the money right away from your bank, but when the check bounces (which can take weeks to months to bounce), you can be left with being forced to pay back the entire amount to the bank, and even be left with being sued by the bank for the entire amount and even get arrested and have charges laid on you because the cops think that you are taking part in the scam. If someone claims to be in another country, and says that it is easier to have someone in the US send you the check, don't take the check. If the check does not look like a normal check, don't take it. (I will write here later what a normal check is like, after I look that up again.) If someone claims that you won a lottery that you never entered, don't take the check. It's likely a fake check. Fake checks are causing consumers and businesses billions of dollars every year. Don't be yet another victim. I will write more here later as I do some more research into this.
