How do you feel about deficits?

I was thinking about this tonight, we are borrowing money from allies of ours like China every day. We all know that spending more money than you make is not a way to run a family, a business, or a country. So I think we should change how we pay our elected officials. Let's pay them on commission. They would only get a pay check if we have a budget surplus. This will make the Senators think about every spending bill, every tax cut, and increase. This will also make our presidents consider how their policies will effect the country, and if they can get it passed through the Senate. What do you think?

Actualy, I think we should go back to the "citizen legislature". Basicly, they show up for sessions, get things done then go back home to their regular jobs and lives, collecting a few hundred bucks. the legislature in my state operates this way, no salaried carreer politicians, citizens serving the state for a few hundred dollar comnpensation, then returning home to their lives. It works well and keeps most of the snakes out.

During a war, we always deficit spend. The problem is that under the current administration, if you take away the military spending, there would still be a huge deficit. We need fiscal restraint, cutting of programs that are wasteful and new programs that are better managed. Peace would be a huge help too.
