Well another great day of homegrown veggies for me this past weekend. Not shown are sweet corn and pickling cucumbers. There was bell peppers, many varieties of tomatoes, grape tomatoes, banan peppers, cucumbers, zuchinni and some green beans. Ate fresh sald all weekend as well as todays lunch. had to go buy more lettuce though. rabbits feast on lettuce when I tried growing it in the past. Just wanted to share my bounty once again from this past weekend. Are you still getting veggies from your garden? It is almost the end of the sason here in Minnesota.

Isn't life wonderful when you can walk out your back door and collect such bounty. I too have been eating tons from the garden as well as providing lots for daughter and her family.
Today I made a trip to the Interfaith Shelter (orginazation in town that feed needy). We've had an abundance of fresh eggs we plan to sell but have had few customers. I took 15 dozen eggs but before leaving home went to the garden and cut a bunch of parsley which I have a lot of. They were both thankful and thrilled at the gift of eggs but I got the biggest thrill out of the reaction over the parsely - they had never had anyone bring any of that in and as they were unpacking the eggs (I needed the cartons back) the cook was chopping parsely to add to the speggetti sauce he was making for dinner. I almost cried and you can be sure I will be stopping in there when ever possible with some little 'surprises'.

Yes a great feeling indeed. I even have the neighbors telling me they don't need anything just yet as they still have some left from the last pickings I shared. Hahahaha! Some of the kids around here love the tomatoes though and my pickles have been a huge hit around the neighborhood as well. May try selling them next year possibly. Got to get or find the perfect recipe too. I am planning on a decent spice garden next year. I want to grow a lot for my pickling and canning next year.
I should do this too. But I don't think there is a food shelf around that would take them. Not sure. I'll have to check into that maybe.

Come to think of it, there's a homeless shelter across the street from my wifes restaraunt. I am sure they'd take some fresh veggies. Thanks.

If you don't have a food pantry like ours I also know several churches in our town offer free food to needy you might check that too.

I have 13 tomatoes on my lone vine and wonder if they'll ripen in time to beat the frost! My mom is looking forward to them.
I saved some seeds from an acorn squash we had last week, do you think they'll grow if I dry them out and plant them next year?

Yes they should grow. A couple of our tomato plants as well as the green peppers and green beans are grown from seeds of last years crops and they thrived greatly.

We do not have a vegetable garden but I do have some potatoes growing in my compost pile and they should be ready in October if it does not snow. I have heard we are going to have an extremely long and cold weather this year, and I did have a dream that I was shoveling snow and it was really deep, if that is any indication.
I almost got enough strawberries and raspberries to make jam with, but will probably eat them off on hand.

Grats. I had heard the same for Minnesota as well. but then again, I heard it was supposed to be a wet summer for us as well. But that didn't happen either. I love the snow and cold. To a point that is. My strawberries have been done for a while.

Hi GRANDPA BOB! Such wonderful blessings picked from your garden dear friend! Fresh vegetables are really great to have in one's table. I share your happiness if not the vegetables you have picked from your garden. haha..I have just picked all my vegies and bananas last weekend and gave them to my grandmother for us to share in her dining table. Not much but it was nice to see my grandmother's eyes light up.
Take care always..God Bless!

Well I should say that you had a very good garden this season, with all those fresh veggies, makes me almost want to start a garden next year. I would like to plant a couple tomato plants, tomatoes are so expensive at the store. Do you like fried green tomatoes? They are pretty good....Have a good day

Looks good! Season ended here already. I didn't get much from my garden this year, but I planted late and I think some of my seeds were bad. Better luck for me next year!

We are still waiting for our tomatoes! I planted it late than the rest so, it's still green this time![/i]

It's really a great for you as I read your discussion. I envy you so much because I am also a vegie lover. I even consider myself a vegetarian at that because of my cravings to vegies and the like. Well, our neighbor also has a garden like you and when they would harvest the vegies, they would give us some for our consumption. Vegetables are becoming expensive nowadays so gardening is the best way to counter it.

Congrats on your mighty harvest! Nothing like homegrown veggies! I had a few plants that produced a few veggies, but nothing like what you have going. I may have a plot for a garden next year. Time will tell though. I may use your technique with the plastic and newspaper this fall to prepare the ground for next season.

Having your own veg is the most wonderful feeling, so I'm not surprised at all that you want to share!
My veg garden is not where I'm living just now, but I'm going over about twice a week to tend it and harvest. In the big bag I brought back last time I had green beans, both red and yellow tomatoes, chilli peppers, green peppers, aubergine (eggplant), courgettes (zucchini), cucumber, melon, peas, okra, onions, brown beans and a big bag of pears.
Some of it is still in the bag, and I really must finnish getting it sorted out and preserve what we can't eat straight away.
