electronic conversion for 1970 plymouth

I have a 1970 Plymouth.I purchased an electronic conversion kit. The kit contained a new electronic distibutor, ballast resister,electronic ecu and wiring. I followed the instructions but no success. I was at a car show in town and I noticed a few mopars with both conventional ecu and the new electronic ecu wired in. Are they both to be hooked up or is the conventional ecu to be unhooked. Thanks for your help.
